_Updates on the Wuhan coronavirus_

*Experts say to wear a mask only if you are unwell. You don’t need to wear a mask if you are well.*

The Government will be distributing a pack of *four masks* to *each household* at distribution points. These are to be used when you are sick and need to see a doctor.

5.2 million masks will be made available progressively from 1 Feb at 89 CCs and 654 RCs.

Bring along your NRIC for verification.

Grassroot leaders will help distribute to the needy.

We have a national stockpile that is sufficient, if we use it responsibly.

*Every family will have access to masks, if they need it.*

It actually make sense in this case since the coronavirus is spread from human to human.

We have a population of 6m and if everyone wear masks, we will have to use at least 6 to 12million masks a day.

However if those who are sick wear masks, we wouldn't need to use so much masks around.

The masks should be able to prevent the virus from spreading from the infected to the rest of those who are well around.

Let's say you have a neighbor who plays loud music and sing loudly at night, you can have the entire block of people wearing earplugs to sleep or you can "plug" that one neighbor and all can sleep peacefully.

Nobody debate?
There is nothing much to debate cos all of us would have already made up our minds on our personal stance on the matter, no?

For me I agree with government. People who are sick should wear mask in order not to spread their saliva and germs all over the place when they sneeze or breathe.

For those of us not sick, wearing mask is just giving ourselves false sense of security. It's more likely that someone sick sneezes into his hand, then holds the MRT hand rail. Then you come in later and hold the same hand rail, then later on your ear or eye itches and you subconsciously scratch it and that's how the virus gets on your face :s13:

A healthy looking guy stands beside u, suddenly sneeze or cough... is he a carrier we dunno. U are assuming carriers are "sick", while another group wants prevention. No right, no wrong but the group who wants prevention has limited option to get hold of masks.
