Hey guys, I've just managed to get myself TPG's XL bundle that comes with 2GB data free daily.
As usual, I've started making use of the 4G Internet immediately.
I was noticing that my Netflix and YouTube was taking longer than usual to load. And when it does, the quality defaults to the lower one. Loading websites are also super slow. This never happened with my star hub.
My phone supports the full 4G spectrum that star hub or tpg uses, so compatibility was not the problem. I have full bars for both telcos as well.
So naturally, I've started performing speed tests. Ookla says that download speed is hovering around 39Mbps on multiple trials while my upload speed is around 8Mbps with 24ps latency
Starhub was better with download maxed out 4g speed with 150Mbps/25Mbps with 12ps ping
Definitely a difference between the two, but TPG's 39Mbps should be a speed one could stream with a minimum of HD quality.
Not trusting the numbers from ookla, I tried speed test using Google's tool and also some other less known portals. I've even tested the speed to our dearest neighbor malaysia's network using Telekom Malaysia's Speedtest
I am getting consistent results with star hub at 148Mbps/24Mbps
The same is not true for TPG. Other than the well known Speedtest, TPG is scoring at less than 0.7/0.5 in all these speed test tools that is not well known in Singapore. Can anyone else help me confirm my data... Is tpg cheating on speeds with Speedtestnet by detecting what you are doing with your data and decide to throttle your internet so that you will hardly notice?
