Is using hard disk drive cooler really useful?

Is using hard disk drive cooler really useful?
Does it help to prevent problems such as bad sectors due to overheating ?
Or it's just a waste to buy ? I'm thinking of buying if it makes a difference.

i dont think it makes much of a diff. fan blow it, still will randomly get bad sectors. its all based on luck

It does makes a great difference in preventing overheating and heads damages.

It is particular useful when your disks have long period of activity, eg, copying large amount of data or downloading movies or being used in small servers.

seems like will cool a little, my external HDD casing have this fan and it runs cooler than my main HDD~

from my experience... my hard disk have not died in my Scythe Himuro Hard Disk Cooler... for past 5 years... 2 hard disk was used in 5 years

but I would say it does cool down and noise is damp with Scythe Himuro Hard Disk Cooler.... does it increase lifespan? is for u to believe

I think hdds are particularly susceptible to heat damage over time.

The vibration from the fan that is screwed onto the HDD casing is more damaging to the HDD?

Nowadays cases already have front intake

Think useful only if your HDD works intensively for long periods.
Otherwise don't really need it.

Not all desktop HDD spin at 5400rpm, a lot are still running at 7200rpm.
