Are they not the same? All extroverts, all good public speakers, all highly-educated, all high-level professionals. How many of the males were not officers during NS? How many of them didn't went to a local university? How many of them are poor? How many of them are disabled? Now compare those percentages to the general population - are they the same?

Knn. If they are same, wp should have voted for 6.9 million :o

People have a very bad understanding of what the end result should be, if we want to have a real democracy. "Vote out PAP" is wrong. "Opposition take over" is wrong. "Vote for the best candidate" is wrong. "[Specific political party or politician] is a joke" is wrong.

The key is to not remove one thing and replace it with another, because you just end up with the same nonsense. What we need is to have diversity. Different kinds of people, different background, different ways of thinking, different education levels, different jobs, different ages.

If you vote for all educated people then only educated people get represented, if you vote for all leaders then only leaders get represented, if you vote for confident people then only confident people get represented; if you're not one yourself then tough luck, all the policies will be done with their mindset because that's the only way they know.

So who cares what parties they belong to. They are all the same. PAP? WP? SDP? All lawyers and businessmen the lot of them.

If not what sort of ppl do u expect to join prior being a politician? Teacher? Artiste? Or a cardboard collector? Just some few elections ago, ppl were complaining opp do not attract high 'calibre' ppl.

I mean given the pace of our growth today and where we are, it will be not be possible not to field any Drs, lawyers or businessmen. These are e kind of ppl who knows how the world spins in the higher way, tho not as high as the incumbent. Becoz the higher n faster u climb, u risk of losing connectivity n understanding with e lower end of the people.

Yes, we can have diversity. But what kind of diversity? If u are looking for a supplier, would u look for ONLY one that demand high fees and craps all the time?

As long as they are representative of the population. If you use RNG to pick 90 people out of 2 million, what's the probability that 1 of them would be a doctor?

if people are going to continue harping about voting the PAP out instead of constructive suggestions like reorganising the voices in parliament according to social status, eg: 33% lower income, 33% middle income, 33% higher income then there will always be the issue of the higher mortals churning out policies that only help their social strata.

if WP takes over from PAP and follow the same recipe, it will be the same ****, just different uniforms. right now they seem to be on the same path by introducing candidates that have stellar academics and i'd rather give my vote to the PAP because WP don't seem to be reinventing how singapore politics should be run.

Yuppp I agree.

I always vote opposition not because I don't enjoy my life here, but because I know whoever in power will be agak agak the same, so it's not a matter of who is the gahmen; rather it should be about WHAT can motivate/scare the gahmen into acting for the country's overall interest.

If one day PAP becomes the opposition, and I still happen to be alive, I will definitely vote PAP :s13:

It's not WP don't seem to be reinventing whatever, it's that they CANNOT say what they want to do.

If they say and PAP does it, then WP cannot take credit.

I totally agree that politics is power-play, it has nothing to do with making Singapore better. It's like saying war is violence and death and destruction. War itself doesn't do any good for the people, but countries wage it (or used to on larger scales) to be IN A POSITION (or so they claim), to help the people.

When you invest in anything, do you put all your eggs in one basket or would you rather hedge? Just look at this thread, the pap and opposition supporters are about 50-50 based on the comments, and EDMW is supposedly a pro-opposition and anti-PAP forum.

This is why I always vote opposition. Simple game theory :)

Change the political landscape? Reorganise voices in parliament? LOL grow up......we'll be long gone b4 that happens.....it'll prolly happen in our grandkids' era.....

The only reason I vote opposition is to give the incumbents my proverbial middle finger......NOT because I respect or adore the opposition......

Politicians are all the same......never ever trust what they say.

Be they Red, White, Blue, Orange....they are all the different shades of the same piece o turd.

It's like choosing between M1, Starfark or Stinktel.......cow dung, chicken dung or sheep dung....end of the day....you're still choosing dung.

If the opposition wants to achieve anything, they need to get their sh!t together, and start crafting sound and sustainable counter-policies.

Post GE 2011, PAP has already implemented some of the ideas
from the alternative parties after the ideas were put forward
from the alternative parties.

So either,
you really don't know about this fact,
or you don't want to know about this fact,
or you know but act blur about this fact.

You have bloody seen how pap managed and how they have failed big time. You still wanna put trust in them?

Long time in power PAP,
self inflicted accounting lapses at national level
and other long term national screw ups
= media coverage for 1-2 days
= brush aside as no big deal or worldwide problems
= PAP's screw ups do not affect me, besides I hold a job now thanks to PAP

Just one cycle in power WP,
accounting lapses at town council level
= media coverage 24/7, 365 days
= evidence that WP cannot manage country
= WP will affect my job, housing etc

"Reasoned analysis of a 60% voter"

Contrary to my belief, seems like half of EDMW do not have faith in the opposition but are not IBs.

Just the average Singaporean. :X

So, it's like "Hey, I do not like PAP all that much but I don't see opposition as very credible either."

So how? :X
