National University of Singapore political scientist Bilveer Singh told TODAY he was not surprised with WP’s no show. “(WP chief) Low Thia Kiang already made it clear that his party will stand in these 28 places, he is not going to give up. If he reneges on his principles, he will get discredited. He cannot afford (that)…You can say there is an ‘arrogance of power’ now because now they are the number one opposition party… But on the other hand, there are valid reasons for why they are putting their position forward (in those places), either where they have contested and lost relatively well, or where they are incumbents.”
