I had purchased a Asus UX430 laptop about 2 months ago but only started using it recently as I have another laptop. I noticed that there is a pretty loud fan sound coming out from it when it is running .

Is this normal ? I have a few laptops before and never had this issue. The sound is pretty loud and the laptop seems to be heating up fast too.

Would appreciate some good advise. Thanks all

What softwares are u using on your Zenbook ?
Graphically intense?

To some extent it is perfectly normal to experience what you have described. This is due to heat build up and dissipation via fans. Higher temps will result in a faster fan spinning profile to remove heat.

Couple of factors -
1. Check if vents are clogged. Clogged vents makes heat dissipation harder
2. If u are doing processor intense / graphical intense task - such as 3D modelling for instance. This will result in the CPU GPU ramping up.
3. Air conditioning or none?

Hi there ,

Thanks for replying .

1 . I dun think the vents are clogged - this is only my 2nd time using this laptop despite buying it for 2 months already .

2. I was just using regular Chrome browser to surf the net . And the sound is loud until noticeable . I have never encountered this before with my laptops (I am using another Asus) but no such issues .

3. yes I was using it in an aircondition environment .

Now just wondering if I should bring it to the service centre

Ah. Think i might have got it.

What I m suspecting is happening in your case is that Windows is updating in the background. This happens for new laptops and is common. You mentioned that this is your second time using after 2 months since purchase as well - hence it adds to further back log.

Verify this by going to start then Windows update - and see the update history if there was alot of updates installed yesterday.

This would result in increased CPU usage and slight lags / increased fan speeds.

Give it a shot for the next couple of days, install all updates then use it normally and see if it is replicable / consistent.

If it is making sounds like there's something touching the fan blade, yes get it serviced

Its new, its under warranty, get a professional to check it out and fix it for free rather than trying to self-diagnose and possibly making the problem worse. When under warranty, ALWAYS use it. You paid for the warranty after all.

Thanks guys for all the advise . I just got back from a holiday trip. Will monitor it for another week and if its still the same, I'll send it for a check at the service centre.

Have a great weekend all !

I just got the ux430 too and find that it is quite 'hot' after some usage. Is it normal for laptop to feel that much heat? And I realised there is no vents for the fan..

Also got a bad experience with UA406

Fan with clicking noise - Asus service centre says it is part of design spec.
Jumpy cursor on power - they can't fix. Keep reformatting and had to leave there many weeks.

Poor build quality generally.

Not sure if this was discussed in other posts. UX430's battery is not removable, what is the best way to protect the battery life?
