I think the parents and the elder brother will forever live with the guilt of not being able to sense anything wrong with him prior to his suicide.

No suicide note or anything? I dun believe that anyone who has deep issues can seem perfectly normal.

How to sense
You are right, difficult to sense. The best way is to tell your children openly which I used to do. 'Don't commit suicide if you are sad, disappointed or fail in any areas. Talk to me. I love you no matter what happens, as long as you are alive, healthy and happy.' I tell them over and over again.

"Hey son, I miss you. How about coming back to play Counter-Strike with your brothers, and you all can shout as loud as you can, and I promise I won't come out of the room and shout at you to stop the ruckus!”

"I can't [think of] anything better than to have all my four sons together."

"Just a year before, Thomas had retired from his job to care for his wife with Parkinson's and pursue his longtime passion of clinical counselling. It was a natural switch. He'd spent his life counselling, on an informal basis, his peers and friends."

"But he hadn't noticed his own son's invisible anguish. What made it worse was that, till today, nobody — not even Jonathan's then-girlfriend — knows why he did what he did."
But even his gf then couldn’t tell. This case is fishy. Usually someone will detect something amiss.. did the cctv catch him jump himself ?

This is not the only case which leaves no clues on what he did. Many suicide cases are like this case.

Let's be real here. If the girlfriend was so important and significant, it would be more than a 1 liner.

Read the whole article again, the whole thing is basically advert for the father's counselling industry.

Moi 😭 when reading this news. Committing a suicide is not an impulsive act. Believe he had many moments struggling to do it but always had second thoughts on it.

This one is scary .. but is now possible with AI on a lesser scale. Creation of AI clone.
All we need now is
1) A video of the person for AI to model his mannerism and voice
2) A full length body photo to model the face and create the 3D character
3) As many messages and posts and emails by him for AI to model his thought process and writing style.

but whether that will help heal the heart at all.
On the contrary, it might further destroyed the heart and the person might never get out of the loop.

Sometimes we need to communicate and educate our children with hard truths, never ever tell them that everything will be smooth and alright or else if one day they meet any difficulties, they will never accept it and do foolish things.
Need to let them know no matter what, we are behind them. Like my niece come back told me she barely pass her Chinese end of year. Told her we will make plan to revise for her Olevel next year. Got problem, find solution. Then just now she dropped butter on the floor. Nobody make a fuss, thing happens, clean up, that's all.
