I'm planning to go Japan in June for the first time. Choose June cos only time both me and partner are free. Plan to go Tokyo Osaka and Kyoto 2wks

Landing at Narita but thinking of spending first week for Osaka and Kyoto then the 2nd week for Tokyo. Should I go to Osaka first or Kyoto since I plan to buy the 7days jr rail pass for Tokyo in the 2nd weeks. Like more worthwhile to explore Tokyo on 2nd week.

So Osaka or Kyoto or sold I make base at one of the two places?

7 days JR pass is like 40,000yen per person. Buy it to use in Tokyo for what? Normal trips within the city only like 200yen per trip.

The JR pass is to cover the shinkansen from tokyo to kansai, trains within the kansai towns (osaka kyoto kobe nara etc) and back to tokyo.

like wat deodorant says, the jr pass is to cover the expensive shinkansen trip between Tokyo and Osaka/Kyoto. and u can activate the pass any time u like, so it is ok whether u do Osaka/Kyoto first or Tokyo first. but it will be better to do Tokyo last because u would want to be near ur airport on ur last day, in case of things like train breakdown.
btw, jr pass is 29110yen lah, not 40000

if u have only a few days for Osaka and Kyoto, then I will advise u to base in one place to save time and hassle from changing hotel. but since u have a week, it is okay to stay a few days in each location. can experience both the peaceful and quiet Kyoto, as well as the bustling Osaka city

if you are doing Tokyo-Osaka/Kyoto-Tokyo, you should get the pass. activate the pass on the day you make the shinkansen trip to Osaka/Kyoto. Make sure you will make the return trip to Tokyo is within the 7th day (after activation)latest.

during the 7 days in Kansai, try to take as much as possible JR trains. This will maximize your money worth.
