Itunes backup restore failed - corrupted file

Hi guys. I have been trying to restore the backup of my previous phone into my new iphone 7 plus but to no avail.

I keep getting an error message from iTunes saying "backup is corrupt or incompatible"...

tried many steps including copying the whole backup folder onto the desktop, deleting the backups on iTunes and copying back in, which is supposed to do the trick but unfortunately doesn't work.

can anyone advise what else I can do? I have so many pictures inside that I didn't backup into a separate folder sia..pictures since iphone 3g days

Did you turn on iCloud Photo Library? That would have back-up your photos on iCloud.

have u tried tools like ibackupbot? can they access yr backup? r u using mac/win? never turned on iCloud backup?

do a re-back up of the phone

have not tried ibackupbot. using win. never turn on iCloud, always by iTunes.

whats a re-back up of the phone? I sold the old phone away already

Hmm... Try to move your backup file to your desktop and the delete the rest of the backup (if any) from iTunes. Transfer the backup to the same folder and try to retstore again.

anyway I was trying a trial version of FonePaw and it seems to be able to retrieve my pictures in the 'corrupted' backup file. however im unable to extract all the data becos its a trial version. anyone has a good program that is FOC and able to extract data from iphone backup files?

nope I did not try to put into another computer as I only have one computer. I can try borrowing a friend's laptop to do this hmm..

here's the possible solution.

1. old phone- upgrade to iOS10.
2. then backup to itunes
3. then restore to iPhone7

different ios restore is a little bit tricky now.

Encountered this error when restoring to my 6s Plus as well. Did normal backup and then restored my phone before restoring backup but failed. Same error message, corrupt backup file / not compatible with iPhone.

Tried copying the backup to 2 other computers to restore, same issue. Checked online but Apple's "advice" is to delete the corrupt backup. iBackupBot can still access the data though, so my data is still salvage-able.
