Itunes 'extra' password

try to download an app, besides keying in itunes password, it send a passcode to another idevice.
i have few devices using same itunes id, so its quite tedious to know which device got it.
anyway to turn off this extra measure?

don't remember i did any such settings. when apple id used in other idevice, it sends a 6 # code to ios 10 devices only, and i had to search among the few ios 10 devices i had..
