ITX system for traveling

I think the case was made for mobility in mind, i.e. bring to a friend's place, but I don't think it is meant for one to bring it overseas.

Actually one of the use cases is for people that are into photography/video editing that want to bring their PC on the go - even when traveling abroad. Also take note of what the TS was asking for in the first place. He wanted to look at an ITX or an ATX so the feedback is around that,...

But yes not that convenient so depending on the use case a laptop might be better suited.

I thought about it and I think I will just go ATX. Going ITX just for travelling that might not even happen does not outweight it's cons.

What specs are you looking at,.. You can get some seriously powerful hardware into an ITX so can use it as a main machine at home with the possibility of moving it around (if you want to).

it is possible. i use deskmini and can carry in ny bag. it is capable of playing games in medium settings. costs about $500

Actually the best bet is the pelican case... Secure the components inside

But since the impending Ryzen CPUs and Ampere GPUs, I have reserved judgement. I want to build a system where I don't have to upgrade for at least 2 years.

I have to balance performance and portability. So. that's why I want to build at end of year to see all my options.

3900x air cooled might kind of be abit tough for itx.

I running my 9900k in an mITX case with CM's AIO and the temps are still a little high

I see,.. Since your CPU requirement is a 12 core 24 thread then what FatalityV said is correct, a bit tough to Aircool in such a small case. You would be better off running an AIO cooler which can fit in some of the ITX cases BUT that does come with its drawbacks of not being so portable.

Once you have more of an idea what your aiming for,.. ITX vs ATX do let us know and we can throw out more ideas of what would or would not work for you!

I see no reason why you would want to do this. Better off getting a laptop.

If you want power, just simply remote desktop into a desktop with a laptop. You get the same power and portability.

If you will be at the country long term say 1 year or something, it makes more sense to dismantle whatever u have, bring over to your destination and rebuild from there.

Depends on what you want actually,.. there are some good ITX cases that can do good temps when using an AIO. There are even some crazy guys that do custom water cooling in ITX (I mean crazy good by the way!).

If your going to dismantle to move it then you can do either,.. personally I like both ATX and ITX so I have both but if I had to choose I would probably go ITX.

If u have to dismantle, size doesn't matter when traveling no? Since it will all be stored in your luggage or something.

In your case, size will only likely matter at your destination's housing. Do u have the space for atx there?

I think my problem is that I want this new build to last 2-3 years(like my current i7-8700 build).

I want to get at least 3900x level of CPU performance. As for GPU, I was planning to reuse my 5700 XT. This would have been doable with an ITX build.

However, Nvidia RTX 3000 arrived. Looking at the size of the GPUs, I will have to wait for people build ITX system around it to see if it is doable.

Of course, I could stick with my 5700 XT. But damn this FOMO

I am gaming on a 1440 165hz monitor btw.
