Isn't ivy cheaper than the new Haswell? And doesn't Haswell consume more power while having little improvement compared to the previous gen processor?

Budget around $1.5k.

I5 or I7

Gaming wise, get i5 will do. i think haswell consume lower power, but having little improvement against ivy, and price diff dun really matches... the price-performance ratio isnt that good.

With your specs, just change gpu to 760/770 or wait for AMD to release and check performance, change psu to a slightly better one or a better case and change your monitor.

Comparing based on clock speed,

for MSI Z77A-G45 i5-3570 (3.4ghz) $495 vs MSI-Z87-G5 i5-4670 (3.2ghz) $518 only $23 diff

Doesn't it make more sense to get the newer Haswell?

Comparing based on Performance wise, 3570vs4570, its $495 vs $491. $4 cheaper for Haswell.

Maybe I'm wrong

Im not really sure on price diff, but if you feel that haswell is more ex by a small margin, then by all means get it.

Investing in an i7 now seemed like a sensible choice now, considering Mantle is rumoured to utilize all threads of a CPU.

You are comparing a different mobo bro. The z77 g45 gaming can be compared to the z87 g45 gaming. Difference is $428 vs $484 about $56.

That $56 if on tight budget can be diverted to a slightly better gfx card. If tight budget is not of a concern then the haswell makes more sense.

Hmm.. $484 shld be referring to Z87-G45 w/i5-4670k on Tradepac's list, but $428, I cant seem to find it for the Z77-G45.. closest would be $418 for i5-3330s, which is a bit too far off to compare with the i5-4670K?

Hmm.. since TS was mentioning about Gaming Rig @ $1.5k, $56 top on to the probable advice for 760GTX wouldn't be able to get him to 770GTX, but probably 670GTX perharps.

Be it whatever processor did TS choose.

Z77 G45 Gaming + i5-3XXX non k

vs

Z87 G45 Gaming + i5-4XXX non k

From the list itself,

We compare of same speed.

i5 4430 vs i5 3330 both 3ghz ~ $442 vs $418 Difference $24
i5 3340 vs i5 4440 both 3.1ghz ~ $442 vs $389 Difference $47
i5 3470 vs i5 4570 both 3.2ghz ~ $429 vs $458 Difference $29
i5 3570 vs i5 4670 both 3.4ghz ~ $440 vs $484 Difference $44
i5 4670K vs i5 3570k both 3.4ghz ~ $472 vs $507 Difference $35

Enough said that if anyone thinks of buying the i5-3330 and 3470 they are better off with an Haswell set.

Anybody whom wanna buy the 3340/4440 or the 3570/4670 and yet have a budget to work on, they are better off buying ivy setup if they wanna save up more and have a tight budget to transfer over to a better gfx card. But of cause one can argue and say that they can buy the lowest tier i5 in ivy and they get more savings. That is exceptionally true and acceptable if they don't mind the speed. Which in turn again, there isn't much performance in CPU for gaming wise.

Someone who really have a tight budget, I would recommend a Ivy setup... the 50$ might be their only savings left for the month. Not that they could not afford it but not everyone needs a Haswell setup esp for light-medium gaming.

Would be using Adobe Master programs too. Wonder if Hyper threading (i7+) will be worth the extra cash.
