iXpand flashdrive not recognised by iPhone

I insert iXpand flashdrive (the one with the crook lightning end) into my iPhone 6S+ but still get the graphic instruction to insert the iXpand flashdrive.
It used to work before but now does not because someone formatted it recently.
What can and should I do to get it working with iPhone again?
