Yeah moi know ish double amping but it does sounds better to my ears. 2nd Viva sounds more open. Bass quantity is okay to me using ety hf5---only thing that sounds more favourable imo is the er4s. Not to sure if i am a treblehead....but i play the bass guitar. lol the irony

Well as long your ears like it , go ahead with it . :)

I used to double amp Clip+ too because i feel the bass is too lacking .

Hi racoiaw, how's the combination with the J3 and 8.A on a flat EQ?
Some brief comments on the SQ would be very much appreciated. Thanks

Ok my bad. Anyway, what's the basic sound signature of the J3 on a flat EQ? I would prefer not to EQ unless necessary. Thanks.

Flat EQ of J3 not much difference from Clip+ imo . I would say soundstage alittle wider and better bass .

When EQ-ed then is a totally different story .

Thanks x3dnd3x, so can I assume that it's on the neutral side with a little warmth to it?

Definitely..the potential of the player is great but sadly, more time were spend messing around the EQ than actual listening.

You sound like you're really regretting getting the J3 .

Maybe DX100 would be a better DAP for you since you're a purist . :o

Nope, never regret getting the J3, only regret is I'm simply too lazy to fine tune the player.

Just feel a need to educate would be buyer of the J3 to know it is TRULY a enthusiast media player. We don't want anyone dishing the player without first knowing the complication.

Of the players I have ever own. I still rank J3 as one of the top player, especially at her price point.

On a side note, if the J3 has a more powerful amp, the player might sound good right off the box. However, guess it is not possible with the single cell battery it comes with.

I bought the J3 for a lady. You cannot expect a lady to be interested in the fine technical point of a product. It either work or don't for them. This lady is VERY particular about her sound characteristic, having been very used to some of the best audio products.

She does think the player rank high for sound reproduction but lack certain dynamics and feel to qualify for best pmp.

PS - The lady hate anything Apple and it is funny, when people see her media players and headphones, they think it suck and they start buying her Ipods.

True i would say .

But if you take away all the EQs , i would say Clip+ / Fuze would be the best at its price point .

Btw , why is J3 a she ? :s13:

How about the similarly priced Clip Zip compare to the Clip+/Fuze?
On a flat EQ, can you please briefly describe the sound signature of these players.
J3 / Z2 are also under my shortlisted players and would greatly appreciate if you or other owners could make some comparison to the Sansa player.
Many thanks to all.

I own both the ipod claasic 7g and j3. So far i feel that the j3 has a better sound as i can eq to suit my music preference. But the ipod classic has a much larger capacity and simpler UI. It depends on what u want to give up lor
