Not true. Food court prices are quite close to SG's.

I make a beeline for the markets or eateries along the streets. I don't see any purpose in visiting food courts in shopping malls.

if you have a day to spare (not week-end), it might be good to go to Puncak Area : around 2 hours driving from Jakarta. It has good view on tea plantation and mountain.

I have not had a problem with safety in Jakarta recently. This is not the Jakarta of the 90s or the previous decade. The usual precautions apply, and there is no need to venture away from the touristic areas.

I did the Real Jakarta tour if you are into that sort of things. Reviews are mixed. It feels commercialised to me so I am not exactly comfortable with the amount we paid for the trip as I am not entirely sure how the money went into helping the poor. A friend who did the same tour higher recommends it though. I

If you are into hiking, Pangrango and Gede is not far away. It is a 2D1N trek and you get to summit two volcanoes.

Not during the weekend. Cooler and cleaner air. This is as close as you can get to Switzerland on Java. Special sate.
