Hi all

I went to JAL Singapore office today and realised that its ticketing counters are no longer available since Feb 2016. There is a notice on the door advising the public to either call them through what seems to be overseas telephone number or check the website. I also cannot find its email address.

I then spent half an hour navigating the JAL sg website and could not find any answers to the question on how to make flight changes, cancellation and fee refund. I hope the experts here can help me.

I booked a return trip via JAL to Tokyo last month and t and I now want to make changes to the booking to include a short stay in Osaka and to extend the stay in Tokyo.

The booking classes are 'V' for departure and 'S' for return (I did not bother about all these classes until now).

For class 'V' departure, the condition is that change of booking is permitted at SGD75 plus any difference in fare and other fees. Cancellation before departure is permitted at SGD150

For class 'S' return, change of booking is NOT PERMITTED and cancellation is permitted at SGD150 before departure.

In view of the above conditions, does it mean that I can make flight changes for departure and to include domestic flights to and fro Osaka but cannot make changes to the return flight from Tokyo to Singapore?

If this is the case, should I just cancel it and book the flight again? I have done a test run on its website and for the multi city booking, I need to top up about S$400 for 2.

There is no information on the website regarding the procedure of cancellation and refund of the remaining sum after deduction of SGD150 cancellation fee.

I was wondering if any of the experts here can help me. Thanks!

Cancellation is always the cheapest option when it comes to this kind of scenario.

Fare diff sometimes can be huge.

If you are looking to go to Osaka - are you trying to change the destination of your inbound flight? Or are you looking to add a domestic sector?

If just adding a domestic sector, I don't think you need to modify your current reservation, just buy a separate domestic ticket. Though I would think the Shinkansen or overnight coaches would be a better option. The only reason you would want to link your domestic sectors to your international tickets is if you are making connections (Osaka-HND/NRT-Changi), and need to protect for misconnects in case of flight delays. But I expect that is not a major concern in Japan, and you can always just give yourself more buffer time.

If inbound destination change, then it'll be more complicated, depending on JAL policy. V class fare may not allow for destination changes, or if it does, the change fee is more than the cost of a separate domestic ticket.

I would just call them using Skype or those budget services. International calls don't cost much at all these days. Some locations are even just airtime on your mobile.

Hi Solo_Apple, my original booking for a return trip to Tokyo is S$1400+ for 2. I tested online the price of the new flight itinerary (includes 2 domestic flights to and fro Osaka) and it is about S$1800+.

You have a point, I am not sure what price JAL would offer me plus SGD75 book change fee

Hi Nemo, thanks for your detailed reply. I want add a domestic flight to Osaka and then back to Tokyo and extending the stay in Tokyo for a few more days.

Hi all,

Thanks for all the advice. I have decided to cancel the reservation and rebook again.

JAL has no direct flight to Osaka and there is a flight which reaches Haneda Airport Terminal 1 at 9.40am and next flight to Osaka ITM is 11.30am at Haneda Airport Terminal D1.

The time difference between flights is 1hr 50min. Assuming the plane reaches Tokyo on time, do you think I have time to catch the Osaka flight?

I had the same question as you one year ago.
http://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/japan-271/transfering-flights-haneda-narita-5015680.html

In short, my wife and I had ample time to transfer.
Familiarise yourself with the route to take to minimise time wasted on walking longer than expected distance.
By the way, our flight was by ANA. You will need to search for the similar one by JAL.

Thanks for your reply wing81.

I found this website http://www.haneda-airport.jp/inter/en/dept/int_dms.html
which states that after we arrive at Haneda International Airport, to go to Haneda Domestic Terminal D1, we are required to clear custom, get our luggage and take shuttle bus. Could anyone let me know whether this is the case?

Check with the flight attendants or the ground staff.
Expert advice from our HWZ expert group, best is u stand-by 3 hours before your next flight. You wont want to miss your flight. =)

Assume plane landed on X hours.
Estimated 45min to clear custom and collect luggage.
Wait bus 15 min.
Bus ride to domestic 15 min.
Check in domestic 15min.
Clear security 15min.

Thus X + 1h45m.
Do note that domestic check in last timing is 30 min before departure.
Better to book a later flight for buffer time

Thanks! After hearing all the advice, I have chosen a domestic flight with a transfer flight time difference of 2hrs and 50 mins.
