Depends on where you're visiting. Not too hot in Hokkaido.

I've been to Tokyo and Osaka on two separate trips during summer. Main purpose was to see the fireworks festivals.

It will be extremely hot unless u go to Hokkaido.
Don't get me wrong, still enjoyable, just really really humid, and AC blasting everywhere so u can easily catch a cold!

I did it a few years ago in very early August.
Caught in time Hokkaido sunflowers / lavender/ Aomori Nebuta Matsuri / Mt Fuji climb in addition to steamy Tokyo / Kanazawa .

My experience 2 years ago :
Lavender has passed its peak in early August & Farm Tomita had some stretches but the main stretch no more.
Sunflower was at its peak in early August.

Tokyo / Kansai will be hot and humid in august, but on the bright side it’s peach season. Japanese peaches really JHJ, sweet and juicy and perfect for quenching thirst after sweating your ass off outdoors.
