Anyone has any link for a good japan map for Garmin GPS to recommend?
thought good to have when moving around in the takayama mountain areas..
I recently hiked thru wakayama so I want to recommend something useful for those of you using smartphones.
I used AlpineQuest app with pre-downloaded OSM Outdoor Map on my hike to good effect. The map lacks names of local landmarks and smaller building details but it was sufficiently detailed for frequented offroad trails. I was able to use it confidently even along unmarked trails as I could easily see the topography of the land using the app.
But if you need better maps, then you need to have an app that uses official GSI maps. Locus Pro app does that.
You will need the paid versions of both apps to have that download ability. I had both and in my experience, while the GSI maps were really detailed, it was difficult to read. Furthermore Locus Pro was rather laggy even on my Nexus 5. So most of the time I used AlpineQuest except for those times where I need to identify individual buildings on the map.
