One is hot, one is cold. Daylight hours short during winter, must start the day earlier. Hot one might be more manageable for a family of 5 as less clothes to pack and can self-drive. If package tour then cold one should be ok with bus ferrying around.

Considering you have kids with you, perhaps the warmer Australia climate would be better?

Unless you are considering bringing them to DisneyLand/DisneySEA, then your kids might complain about the cold. I've seen plenty of kids at DisneyLand who are bundled up like a ball, and still complain that they are cold. And they may not get to enjoy the theme park. If you are concerned about it being too humid in Australia, then you could consider heading to Melbourne, where it is slightly cooler then the rest of Australia.

things u need to consider:
(A) Budget - air ticket might cost twice for high peak, dec period
especially u are flying back on 26 dec, one day after xmas period
(B) your kids can tahan the big change in weather ?
(C) Need to pack lots of clothings for them and kids items... meaning to say your luggage checked would require more weight

Now that aud seems to depreciate against sgd
$0.99 to Aud $1
might be good to go australia if u really wish to travel

for jpy, the rates isnt very favorable . <81
