Hi All,

Need some help on Hakone Day Trip. I am planning for a day trip to Hakone with my 3 year old daughter. I am thinking if i am not staying overnight there. How many hours do i need for the hakone 1 day loop course. I will like to go Hakone Shrine, Pirates Cruise and the Owakudani Black Egg.

Assuming you are setting off from Shinjuku and using Odakyu hakone Free pass:

You can start as early as 7am from Shinjuku
HyperDia | SearchResult

Reached Sounzan (Hakone Ropeway) by 9.45am and continue on to Owakudani. You should have enough time to complete the loop before sun set(around 4.30pm?)

Beware that Hakone Ropeway end its service quite early:

Sun set at 4.30pm but by 3.30 the sky is already dimming very quickly. Probably u have to skip the Hakone Jinja and just take the Pirate Ship to and fro. That ship maybe more interesting for your 3yo than another shrine in the woods.

Bro, what's your opinion on Rinku Town outlet and Kobe Marine Pia Outlet? Worth the effort to go there?

Hello, I would like to seek some advice on the transport passes I need to buy for my upcoming trip to Kansai/Chugoku from 27 Nov - 4 Dec. I will be based in Kyoto all 7 days of my trip. My rough itinerary is as follows:

Day 1 - 27 Nov
Arrive in Japan at 0845 hrs KIX
[walk around Eastern Kyoto e.g. Kiyomizudera]

Day 2 - 28 Nov [Western Kyoto e.g. Arashiyama]

Day 3 - 29 Nov [Miyajima]

Day 4 - 30 Nov [Hiroshima]

Day 5 - 1 Dec [Kurashiki/Okayama]

Day 6 - 2 Dec [Osaka/Kobe]

Day 7 - 3 Dec [Central Kyoto e.g. Nishiki Market]

Day 8 - 4 Dec
Depart for SG at 1100 hrs KIX

I am not sure what would be more worth it:
(a) Buy the 4-day JR West Rail Pass - Sanyo Area for Days 3-6 (20570 yen), and use Icoca/Haruka for the other days or
(b) Buy the 7-day nationwide JR pass (29110 yen) and use it all the way - more convenient but more exp?

Would appreciate any kind advice on the above! Thanks very much in advance.

If you are based in Kyoto, does it mean that you have to return back to Kyoto every evening? The Nozomi shinkansen (valid on Sanyo pass but not on JR Railpass) with a transfer to local Sanyo line from Hiroshima takes a bit over 2 hrs to get to Miyajimaguchi and there you have to take a 10 mins ferry to get across. That means you have to factor in 5 hrs travelling time for Miyajima. And for Hiroshima, it will take a about 1hr 40mins one way on the Nozomi. Isn't this accommodation arrangement too troublesome?

But in anycase, yes you want the Sanyo pass and not the JR Railpass.

Rinku first thing on our list, go buy burberry blue label, seiko watch, under armour, franc franc, asics. Got more international brand.

Mitsui on the other hand is along the way so look look see see, but still end up buying Coach and more under armour stuff. More Japan local brand.

So depend what u want to buy.....

like wat kifo mentioned, u are going to spend a lot of time travelling to and fro. even okayama is more than an hour from Kyoto.
might be better to spend a night at Hiroshima to visit Hiroshima and miyajima, then a night at okayama to visit okayama and Kurashiki before heading back to kyoto

Thanks. have included Rinku town, Kobe Marine Pia and Sanda. Dropped Trurumi.

Just discovered Sanda is a bus ride away from Arima Onsen, so I have added Sanda.

Hello, heading to Japan for 2 weeks from 29 December to 12 January.

My plan is basically

1 week in Tokyo (planning to catch some pro wrestling shows during the new year period)
29th December to 5th January.

That will leave 5th January to 11th January for other cities with me going back to Tokyo to catch my flight back to Singapore from Haneda Airport.

My plan is around
5th to 7th - Kyoto
7th to 9th - Osaka
9th to 11th - Hiroshima
11th - Back to Tokyo

Is this ok? Wanted to try and visit mount Fuji too but a bit rushed.

One thing that I checked when planning my trip to Miyajima is the timing for the tides. Some days the high tide only in early morning and at night. So, I ended up staying overnight to catch the 9am high tide. Definitely hard to do that if traveling all the way from Kyoto.

UPDATE: High tide on 29th November is at 2.50pm. Should be a nice time to see the floating effect. If you want to walk to the gate, low tide is around 8am.

will be hard to try to squeeze in mount Fuji (lake kawaguchi or hakone?) into the 7-days of ur JR pass. maybe put it as a day trip from Tokyo?

thanks for the suggestion.
wont be shopping much at Shinjiku/Shibuya/Harajuku,just see see look look.

Will be taking last train to airport as i will most likely oversleep and wont make it on time to airport.

Is 220k yen be enough including accommodation or should i change more to be safe?
