my replies in blue. thanks evilerniex for your input! does anyone have any good food places to recommend at each of the places?

oh dear haha didn't know that about the Nara transport option. am intending to just spend half a day at Nara before checking in!
dun worry, nara is only 45min by JR nara line from Kyoto. so u shld still have time to go. set off earlier from tokyo to give urself more time

heard mixed reviews about osaka castle haha. probably will put it on lower priority. will definitely see glico man at night instead! and perhaps shift uemda to the previous night!
yah... osaka castle is not as nice compared the others. but if u are not planning to see other castles, i think it is still worth a visit.

hi guys,
I would be going to Osaka for 14 days during dec/jan. I have a few questions to ask about my trip.
1. i am planning to stay in kyoto for first 9 days(2 days in a ryokan and 7 days in a airbnb apartment) and osaka for 5 days(somewhere ard namba), is it a good idea to spread my days like this?
For my trip, i planned to be a leisure trip visiting some onsen, sightseeing and going for a day ski tour.
2. is there any ski resort nearby kyoto for a day trip to recommend? what are the possible day trips i can go ?
3. if i were to travel ard these places which kind of passes should i get? (i am really confused with all the kansai passes and JR passes etc. )
4. i have a morning flight at 10am, is it possible i travel early morning from osaka (namba area)to the airport on a weekday morning? will there be jam? what time would be the first train and all
Thank you in advance! :)

1. depends on where u want to go and how many days u planning to spend at each place. any reason for ur breakdown? are u going spend all 9 days in kyoto?

2. not familiar with ski resort. day trips, the popular places will be nara, kobe and himeji. u can consider going hiroshima also, but i suggest staying a night or two in hiroshima to properly enjoy the place

3. depends on where u going. for kyoto, u can get a bus pass. there are metro passes for osaka that includes discount for attractions which is worth it if u are planning to go to those attractions. other passes will depend on the day trips u are making

4. yes, no problem. it is about 1hr from osaka to KIX.

can i make it a day trip to hiroshima and back to kyoto? dont really like to pack luggage and travel ard as i prefer to stay in a place.
If i am gg to places like hiroshima, nara, in this case gettting aa JR Pass worth it?

yes, it is possible to do Hiroshima as a day trip. quite rush, but still possible. half a day for miyajima, half a day for peace park and memorial museum. u can just leave ur luggage at ur Kyoto/Osaka accom, and bring enuf for a night stay.
if going Hiroshima, it will be worth it to get the JR kansai-hiroshima area pass. it will also cover ur trips to nara, Himeji etc.

I would suggest staying in Osaka instead of Kyoto for those days which u are traveling out. coz there is not much to do at night in Kyoto.

with this itinerary, u can start booking ur hotels already. just book 1 night at kawaguchiko and the rest in tokyo.

but i would suggest staying a night in nikko. coz it is going to be very rush to do all those places in nikko within a day. need to consider the travelling time to nikko and the bus to the various attractions.

u dun need JR pass for the places u are going. it is easier to get to kawaguchiko by bus from shinjuku. and for nikko, there is nikko pass.

How to plan my trip for the following if staying 1 day there for the following:
gotemba
Mt Fuji
Lake Kawaguchi
Shiraito Falls

I cant make up my mind whether to stay 1 night there for the mt. Fuji trip.. need some input bro

My current plan

5th Nov
Arrive Narita Airport 3pm
Train to Tokyo
Check in
Meiji Shrine
Shibuya

6th/7th Nov
Kegon Falls
Nikko Tosho-gu
Edo Wonderland Nikko

How should i travel from Nikko to Mt. Fuji

8th/9th Nov
Mt Fuji
Lake Kawaguchi
Shiraito Falls
Gotemba

10th Nov

11th Nov
Disney Land

12th Nov

13th Nov
Disney Sea

14th Nov
5.25pm Depart Narita

for the first day, i dun think u have time to visit meiji shrine. by the time u clear customs and travel to tokyo, it is going to be 5-6pm. and u still need to check-in hotel and leave luggage.

from nikko, u need to travel back to shinjuku to take the hghway bus to kawaguchiko. or u can take JR train to otsuki and change to fujikyu line.
http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e6905.html

would suggest u stay a night at kawaguchi coz u wun be able to cover so many places in a day, since it takes at least 2hrs to get from tokyo to kawaguchi

and u need to book ur accommodations asap. getting very close to ur travel dates already.

Hi all,

My trip to Osaka/Kyoto is happening in 1 month time and i hope to get some help to start my itinerary planning. Some brief info, I enjoy scenery (the autumn leaves), shopping and food. Not so big on the Osaka aquarium. Is Osaka castle worth visiting?
My plan as follows:

Day 1: Arrival at night (nothing much to accomplish on this day)
Day 2: Osaka (staying near to Shinsaibashi Station) Any suggestion on what to do during the day?
Day 3: Kyoto (only have 2D1N, where are the must go places?))
Day 4: Morning Kyoto / Afternoon return to Osaka Any suggestion?
Day 5: Osaka Any suggestion?
Day 6: Return home~

As you can see, not much has been decided yet and i hope to get some recommendations. Oh and are there any good train Map app that i can rely on? The Korea train map app is a life-savior for me.

200 room per night per night?
i usually stay in cheap business hotel such as toyoko-inn or super hotel chain. u can get better hotels with $200 budget.
i dun have any particular hotel to recommended, but i would suggest staying near stations along the JR Yamanote line for easy access. ueno or shinjuku will be good coz got direct train from narita airport.

itinerary wise, it looks ok. u can book ur hotels base on that. u can slowly plan for the rest of tokyo after booking the hotels.

hi Guys,

My wife and I are travelling to Japan this holiday season. Dec 19 to Jan 4. I hope you could help or provide any tips.. This will be our 1st as a couple but we've been there once before.

dec 20. arrive in tokyo (am), sightseeing, rest
dec 21. travel to nagano. shiga kogen ski resort. (nagano 1 night)
dec 22. snow monkeys, onsen. travel to takayama after. (takayama 1 night)
dec 23. shirakawa-go by nohi bus. travel to kanazawa - shinkansen - kyoto. (kyoto 1 night)
dec 24. sightseeing kyoto. Kiyomizudera, nijo, inari. travel to osaka @ night. (osaka 1 night)
dec 25. universal studios. (osaka 1 night)
dec 26. travel to hiroshima - miyajima. shinkansen day trip. (osaka 1 night)
dec 27. Nara daytrip (osaka 1 night)
dec 28. osaka sightseeing. travel to tokyo @ night
dec 29. hakone daytrip. lake kawaguchi.
dec 30. nikko daytrip.
dec 31. tokyo
jan 01. tokyo
jan 02. ???
jan 03. ???
jan 04. tokyo. fly back to SG @ night

At first we decide to get only the 7 day JR pass to start/end on dec 21 to 27. however, if we get the 14 days, it could be more value since we plan to go other places surrounding tokyo.

from dec 28 to jan 04, we'll be staying in tokyo in my friends flat.

any suggestions, comments about the trip? I calculate the 14 day pass is worth it since we have 16 days in japan.

for jan 02 & 03, any tips to maximize the JR pass more. I know it will be a lot of traveling.

thanks.

I would suggest spending more time at each place. for example, it would be nice to experience staying a night in the grass hut in shirakawago. can also spend a night at Hiroshima so u wun have to rush though Hiroshima and miyajima.
since u are going Kyoto only for a day, y not stay in Osaka instead since Kyoto and Osaka is only 30min apart. then u wun have to spend time changing hotels.
it will be very rush to visit hakone and kawaguchi in the same day. and since it is winter, sun sets very early and it will be dark ard 5pm. so u dun have much daylight for sightseeing

Eidekos itinerary seems very rushed n lots of traveling around on trains.

As suggested, can spend more days at one location and less time traveling around.

Maybe Himeji trip consider the kansai Area pass for a day at 2200(2300)? The JR Special Rapid Service cost 1490 one way
