Hi, below is my amended itinerary. Depends on that day itself, some places may be removed. Looking at my travel below, should I purchase the JR Pass for this trip? Thanks.

10 Mar - 18 Mar
Day 1 Tokyo (10 Mar, Thurs) Reach Haneda airport @4pm. Check in Shinjuku hotel n dinner n shop around.

Day 2 (11 Mar, Fri) Meiji shrine, Shibuya, Hachiko Statue (Dog), Tokyo metropolitan building, Yoyogi park, Tokyo Tower. [going to be very rush to cover so many places in a day. probably need to leave Tokyo tower for another day, and wun be able to cover much in each place]

Day 3 (12 Mar, Sat) Hakone free pass [not sure if the hakone ropeway area is stil closed during ur visit] - will check again when nearer to date.

Day 4 (13 Mar, Sun) Tsukiji Seafood Market, Ginza, Senso-ji temple, Asakusa area (shrine & shopping), Ueno park, Pokemon Mega Centre.

Day 5 (14 Mar, Mon) Early morning check out hotel, Nara Park, Todaiji temple, Fushimi Inari, Check in Ryokan in Kyoto, Kiyomizu-dera, Pontocho Alley (evening).

Day 6 (15 Mar, Tues) Arashiyama and Sagano, Tenryu-ji > Bamboo grove > Kinkaju-ji temple (Golden Pavilion), Nijo Castle.

Day 7 (16 Mar, Wed) Check out hotel, USJ or Osaka Castle, city tour, Check in Osaka hotel. [too rush. I suggest u dun change hotel, just stay in Kyoto and make day trips to Osaka since it is only 30min away. save some time and avoid the hassle] - my flight is 11am departure so need to leave earlier and reach hopefully before 9am.

Day 8 (17 Mar, Thurs) Universal Studio Japan (Harry Potter) or city tour

Day 9 (18 Mar, Fri) Check out hotel, depart from Osaka airport@11am.

nope, u dun need JR pass since u are only travelling one way on the shinkansen from Tokyo to Kyoto.

day 5 is very rush. it is probably half a day gone after travelling from Tokyo and leaving luggage in ryokan. need to cater time to travel to and from nara also, so probably no time for fushimi inari and kiyomizudera

reaching airport at 9am is not a problem even if u are travelling from Kyoto. the first ltd express Haruka train from Kyoto to Kansai airport is at 5:46am and will reach at 7:10am. there are 2 haruka trains per hour from kyoto

For Day 5, I was hopping to use the luggage forwarder service so that no need to bring along. 1st destination will be Nara Park etc and on till mid day then check in followed by the last 2 places. Thanks.

a bit tight, but can be done. if u take the 7am (or even earlier) nozomi train from tokyo, u will reach nara at 10:19am. can spend maybe 2hrs at nara before heading back to kyoto for lunch and check-in.

Hi Guys,

Just starting out to plan and would like your comments and suggestions. Heading there on the last of week of March.

Day 1: Land at Narita 9am
Head to Kyoto or Osaka (Free and Easy)
Check in hotel

Day 2: Hiroshima Day Trip

Day 3: Kyoto or Osaka Day Trip

Day 4: Check out Hotel and Travel to Hakone
+ Hakone Free Pass and View Mt Fuji (Stay 1 Night)

Day 5: Tokyo

Day 6: Tokyo

Day 7: Tokyo

Day 8: Tokyo

Day 9: Narita at 3pm and back to SG

Would appreciate your suggestions for the following....

1) Should we stay in Osaka or Kyoto?

2) Should we set aside the full day for Hiroshima or can we squeeze in Miyajima island?

3) Worth staying in Hakone or would a day trip from Tokyo suffice? Idea is to view Mt Fiji and try a onsen
.

1) both are fine. i personally prefer to stay in osaka coz there is more things to do at night will all the shops and eateries. kyoto is mainly for sightseeing, so nothing much at night. however, if u prefer a more quiet place or want to experience a ryokan stay, then kyoto will be better.

2) it is possible to squeeze in miyajima, just it will be a bit rush. both hiroshima and miyajima have lots to see and would be good if u can spend more time at each place

3) yah, will be good to spend a night to experience the onsen.

ur itinerary is actually quite rush. if it is ur first time at those places, i would suggest spending more time at each place. for example, kyoto needs ard 2-3 days to cover, and osaka will maybe 2 days.

yes, osaka also have airport.
usually open-jaw is more expensive or dun have promotion, flying in and out of the same place may be cheaper. and only SQ flies direct to osaka, whereas u have a lot more choices if u are flying to tokyo

Why not Osaka osaka? I see most pple land in Tokyo?
If land in Tokyo, which airport should I land if I'm going Tokyo town

like I have explained previously, there are more choices for direct flight to Tokyo.

if going Tokyo, Haneda will be preferred because it is much near to Tokyo compare to Narita

how come 23 march and 28 march are the same? and ikebukuro is repeated on 24 march.

u listed quite a lot of shopping places in shibuya. most of them are huge departmental stores. probably dun have time to cover so many of them in an evening.

and how about visiting odaiba? will have stuff that are more kids friendly, such as LEGOLAND discovery centre, Toyota megaweb, ferris wheel

I think it ok to go hakone on second day. one less hotel change.
do note that owakudani area is currently still closed due to volcanic activities.
odaiba is beautiful at night, so maybe want to stay for the night view of rainbow bridge before heading to ginza

Harajuku and ometesando are very very packed on Sundays. With 2 small kids have to exercise care. You need to choose between the weekend atmosphere and lesser crowd on weekdays.

Odaiba is huge area, your kids may be exhausted by end of the day. After a day there i'm already tried. Perhaps it's due to my age. Lol

Hi all,

This is my first time travel to japan and this will be also one of the most memorable trip because i'm planning to propose to my gf during sakura season.

Long story short, 12 days in japan.. since too many places to visit.. i only wish to cover most of the historical sites plus some heavy shopping/eating during my stays in Tokyo.

I'll also be purchasing 7 days JR pass for Osaka - Kyoto and 3 days Tokyo metro pass during my stays in Tokyo.

Would appreciate all the inputs including places of interests in the <blank space> below.

1/04 - Departure via ANA at 05:00AM. Arrival in NRT at 14:00PM. Transit from NRT to Osaka via shinkansen (3hrs 44mins) based on google map, will arrived in Osaka estimated 18:00PM. Check-in and check out apartment surrounding for the night.

2/04 - <Travel between Osaka and Kyoto>. I'm trying to find a romantic site to propose to my gf. Nothing crowded, just me and my gf under sakura trees, anyone have any idea where can i find one in Kyoto?

3/04 - <Travel between Osaka and Kyoto>

4/04 - <Travel between Osaka and Kyoto>

5/04- <Travel between Osaka and Kyoto>

6/04 - <Travel between Osaka and Kyoto>

7/04 - Depart from Osaka early morning 09:00AM to Tokyo. Estimated arrival at Tokyo at 13:00PM. R&R all the way till 12/04 evening

8/04 - <Tokyo>

9/04 - <Tokyo>

10/04 - <Tokyo>

11/04 - <Tokyo>

12/04 - Flight back at 17:00PM

Would appreciate if yall can plan my itinerary for me!

wow.. another person proposing in japan! someone posted as well in other thread

cant really think of any good place for proposal in Kyoto coz Kyoto is a very touristy place, and it is going to be packed with tourist especially during sakura period. u will need to find some ulu, less popular place coz all the nice sakura spots are going to be crowded.

maybe u want to consider tempozan ferris wheel in Osaka instead? coz hard to find a private, less crowded spot in popular cities like Kyoto, Osaka and Tokyo

I'm thinking of Ueno Park in Tokyo, not sure if sakura already faded by the time i reached there. Therefore, i'm playing on a safer side by proposing in Kyoto instead. I'm also taking Maruyama-koen Park as one of the ideal places to to pop the question.

Ferris wheel is out... as i wanna make it under the sakura. :)
