tax free need tourist entry stamp in passport? for those using e-gate how to get the stamp without joining manual queue?

If you use the automated gates, no immigration stamp will be placed on your passport unless requested at the examination booth. If you need an official stamp, please ask the official at the automated gate.

got confused watching their video. saw demo just stand in front of machine to scan passport & face, thought that was e-gate.

e-gate will need to scan finger prints as well.

so tax refund QR not necessarily have to turn on during entry? can turn on anytime while in japan right?

I remember scanning it after immigration and after collecting luggage, before exiting the arrival hall.

After that, no shops ask for it..All check my passport for entry stamp nia..Some shops ask me scan their QR code to get a screenshot of receipt..When i exit via kansai, nobody ask..Really is exit chop nia..

ok after further reading, tax refund QR just optional feature so shop which support tax refund QR can verify.

anyway still can use passport to verify so no issue. will just ignore that tax refund QR

I never do the tax refund QR on Visit Japan Web. I just let the shops scan the stamp on my passport during the purchase.

How to make claim, have receipt or any amount spend ?

Minimum yen5k.

Some shops are tax free means tax isn't collected at the shop. Don't need to make claim.

Others have tax refund eg in department stores. Have to pay tax upfront. Go to customer service to claim refund for a small fee.


In both cases they'll scan your passport or qr code (if supported)
