I am with Ikoma as well. Advance 4 starting this week.

I think they are more professional than cc classes cos they have their own syllabus

I only completed Basic in Ikoma, but it's a really good school. Can't continue because no time but will definitely go back and study again. The Sensei (s) there are really nice! Recommended to go there and study, nice place to study as well.

There are lots of schools available, like Ikoma, Hougang, Bunka, etc...
It really depends on what level u wanna study. Beginner, intermediate, advance...

Like for me, i also teach Japanese, but i stop taking in new students for beginner le... wanna spend more time on my relationship. =)

Seem like Ikoma is well-recommended.

I am thinking of taking beginner course. Becos i can only speak and know 'sumimase, arigato gozaiimas, ohaiyo, konichiwa, konbawan and baka.' Lol.

Wad is ur intention of learning Japanese? To be very frank basic is not enough to converse if u were to go for holidays. The key to learning Japanese is lots of practice which u cannot really study by ur self. If u just want to pass jlpt than self study is enuff. Even in the advanced class there are many students tat can hardly converse well enough

Thanks!
But they no discuss abt sch.

I am thinking since i only learning the basic, should i jus buy a book and learn it myself?

Going for classes means that you get to practise conversations. IKOMA teachers are quite good. Their lesson plan includes exercises where all students have to interact with others in Japanese.

My intention is to speak, understand and read basic Japanese. No need to go until jlpt or very expert in it.

Ikoma quite ex.

Found another cheaper sch, Hougang Japanese Language School, with gd raves too.

Heard that the Hougang one doesn't always use native teachers.

You don't need a native teacher to teach well. =)

Native teachers doesn't mean they can teach well...

JCSのChua-sensei and HougangのSai-sensei are good examples

I am in Chua-Sensei's Advanced I class @ JCS and he teaches well (non Native teacher). He gives appropriate examples to let us understand better and he correct our pronunciations when we answer questions.

I had doubts about him when I had to choose between Chua-Sensei and Hiromi-Sensei. I also have this concept that it is better to learn from a Native teacher. Chua-Sensei proved me wrong :)

BTW, he prefers to be called Shingo Sensei. :o

1 of my students wrote this bout me...

==========================
I have been studying Japanese Language for about three years, but just joined Can sensei’s conversation class this year. I enjoy going for lesson every week as sensei’s class is never boring.

Besides learning from notes, we get to learn through dramas, songs and games in class. Through sensei I get to know/ understand alot of things that I think I will never get to learn in Japanese school.

As class size is small, sensei is able to focus on each and every student, and will personally guide the weaker student to ensure that they are not leave behind. Not only that, sensei is very patient with student and is always there to help students to correct their mistakes made even after lesson. He will also give advices / suggestions on ways to improve the student’s Japanese. Learning under Can sensei is not as stressful as learning in Japanese School and I feel that I am able to absorb more and better.

Before making my mind to join sensei’s class, I actually did hesitated and doubted his ability in teaching Japanese as sensei is a Singaporean after all. When I attended his first lesson, I am shocked and impressed by his fluent Japanese and the knowledge he have related to Japan. I feel that it is hard for a foreigner to teach Japanese (as language is not by memorizing standard answers), but I am convinced that Can sensei is able to teach well as he never fail to answer all my questions asked during lesson. He is also a humble teacher as he will ask the student to review the lesson and will try his best to improve the lesson and make every lesson interesting.
