You don't need a native teacher to teach well. =)

Native teachers doesn't mean they can teach well...

JCSのChua-sensei and HougangのSai-sensei are good examples

1 of my students wrote this bout me...

Ya loh, agree. Native teacher may speak with the Jap slang, as a beginner the more i canot understand.

Sai-sensei? Nv see this name. U personally know these sensei?

U sure very happy to receive such comment from your student bah. :)

When i was filling up the form, the principal happened to come out, and he asked whether i was a student, in fact i am a working adult for some time already, so he asked whether i learn Japanese is for work purpose. Quite a frenly man in his 60's. He looks like a Japanese, but he speak chinese to the staff leh.

Edited: He's a Japanese, but he learnt Chinese for 3 years. His chinese quite gd loh.

There are lots of people out there who are fluent at other languages haha. I once knew this Japanese girl who I didnt believe was Japanese because she spoke Chinese like a Taiwanese.

==========================
I have been studying Japanese Language for about three years, but just joined Can sensei’s conversation class this year. I enjoy going for lesson every week as sensei’s class is never boring.

Besides learning from notes, we get to learn through dramas, songs and games in class. Through sensei I get to know/ understand alot of things that I think I will never get to learn in Japanese school.

As class size is small, sensei is able to focus on each and every student, and will personally guide the weaker student to ensure that they are not leave behind. Not only that, sensei is very patient with student and is always there to help students to correct their mistakes made even after lesson. He will also give advices / suggestions on ways to improve the student’s Japanese. Learning under Can sensei is not as stressful as learning in Japanese School and I feel that I am able to absorb more and better.

Before making my mind to join sensei’s class, I actually did hesitated and doubted his ability in teaching Japanese as sensei is a Singaporean after all. When I attended his first lesson, I am shocked and impressed by his fluent Japanese and the knowledge he have related to Japan. I feel that it is hard for a foreigner to teach Japanese (as language is not by memorizing standard answers), but I am convinced that Can sensei is able to teach well as he never fail to answer all my questions asked during lesson. He is also a humble teacher as he will ask the student to review the lesson and will try his best to improve the lesson and make every lesson interesting.

Are you Shingo-Sensei?

I had been learning Japanese for a while, but due to bad memory, I find it very hard to remember the whole lot of grammar. How do you all study? Any tips or good website? =p.

I spent 5 years before I could speak. The most important thing, I believe, would be to have a very big interest in something else that uses the language. Your hobby/interest will keep you going because you like it and its fun.

Seeing so many Jap class students and also a Jap sensei around, hopefully anyone can give me some advice to my dilemma :D

I have been attending Jap class last year.

All starts well but until the grammer kicks in (te form and onwards), which from that point onwards I'm unable to catch up anymore. I think I might be too slow in learning the stuff as compare to Chinese and English, Japanese structure seems like.... very different...

Couple with my intensive workload last yr and my wedding prep this year, feeling that I cannot catch up anymore, I had to make the tough decision to stop my classes first while midway at JLPT N4 Syllabus. I was very very lucky to pass my JLPT N5 last Dec (borderline pass).

Now after my wedding, I really want to continue back my Japanese class. However I don't know where to start now. I'm afraid that continuing in Level 4 with my weak foundation, I will just lag more and more behind :(

My target is more of able to talk and engage in conversation with nihon-jin fluently when I go to Japan in future. Of course, if able to pass up to JLPT N2 I will be lagi happy already :(

hougang language school is the cheapest among all the schools(bunka, ikoma) and I think they are pretty good. but i think each sensei teaches his own syallbus. i was quite surprised that a sensei there teaches kokugo...

i personally learned from bunka, and it has given me a really solid foundation in grammar. they teach rather little vocab in the elementary classes and zero kanji was introduced. but imo they can be self-studied. bunka places importance on stuff that cannot be learned outside of sch, such as confusing grammar points and conversation.

it doesnt matter which of these schools u join. just have to be consistent, and deep inside, u must keep urself motivated, always asking urself the purpose of studying a new lang. ganbatte kudasai!
