Yes it does help alot...and it expedites your kanji learning process even for new kanjis...
Only thing is that sometime the kanji have very different meaning...

Cert only says so much.Furthermore the jlpt exams are all MCQs,i wont say its the best gauge of one's ability. You know where you stand where you want to reach.i feel that reaching the proficiency level you desire is more important.

Personally...i self studied for JLPT3...i ended up being weak in conversation.Partly because i have no one to practice with.So now,i taking up classes to advance my jap proficiency...

BJT got oral exams...if you pass their written test...

I aim to be able to read and speak. Writing of course is a must but thats not my prority.

I train my conversation by talking to myself :s31: I was caught by my mum once when Im 'training' and she stared at me like she saw an alien. :s13:

miii too =D

i think its much better than learning the structured way since those are more for compos n report writing haha.. wun be able to use those we learn for our daily lives.. movies n animes are much better sources!~

yup...
but don learn fully, my japanese penpals warn me some may not be suitable depending on scenarios and seniority... so if u apply in the wrong circumstances then.. it will become awkward...

especially anime... So i learn more from dramas than anime... :D

I believe it helps alot if the person learning japanese is a chinese with chinese language as a foundation.

my friend's brother who is now teaching english in Japan used 2 tell me...

"if being a chinese, u can master such a tough language in Asia, then Japanese won't be a problem as a language to master"

"to master the language, u have to master the esscence and do that is to understand the culture"

so i still use these 2 sentences to motivate myself to learn japanese till 2day when i found it tough at times... :D
