Going to incorporate this...... more convenient than the hill SITs that i just started 10 days ago. Too bad only 5 weeks away from AHM and actually in reality just 3 more weeks of actual training.

Actually been exercising for the past 10-11 years with stairs climbing, just that wasn't consistent only. (sometimes 1 times a week, sometimes 2-3 times a week)....and not optimal coz quite a few times i'd just incorporate it after work while still in office attire, and last time i was in long sleeves, pants and leather shoes. Not like present lycra top, jeans, running shoes.

I guess is same thing, can do easy zone 2s and also stair fartleks.

Seems like it mimics plyometrics in a certain way too.
More than good enough for distance runners in the non-elite cat i guess.

Stair workouts use a plyometric motion, which strengthens not only the leg muscles (and the smaller, often-underdeveloped stabilizer muscles), but provides a healthy dose of high-intensity cardio to test your lungs and heart.

Just playing around and trying to incorporate more convenient methods that'd work for me / my schedule.
Coz the hilly part at my area i need to jog to another part which is 300m away, and not so convenient coz it's a pedestrian walkway beside the main road.

The stairs are right at my doorstep. :ROFLMAO:
edit - actually shd be good, have seen various hiking/mountaineering groups at my place training with their rucksacks and boots, but of coz their sporting is much more similar to stairs climing than running is.

ps. Also don't know why, maybe is really overthinking, but i have this feeling that if i run more and pile on more and more pure running mileage, something bad (injury) might happen.
For cardio base training, better to racewalk or even stairwalk. I know it'd work coz my base was/is really built up with walking. Believe they call this cross training....
But i don't have access to bike machines or ellipticals or swimming pool.

BTW be careful with the really steep hills. Mine not so steep..... just enough can liao.
Esp if kena achilles tendon injuries before, and/or never strengthen/bulletproof that part.
Got risks.

There is also a technique when going up the stairs, main point being plant your whole foot down and push....body lean forward. Do not tip toe ie this is no forefoot striking stuff, unless if you have superb gastroc/soleus strength, or you wanna train them.

Cross post here as well

Any updates regarding haze forecast for the next few months?

Just hoot all the races you wanna! :ROFLMAO:

For SSBR/AHM Aug 27 literally zero risk of 2015 type of prolonged and heavy haze scenario.....which are dependent on Jambi, Lampung and various Kalimantan provinces.

Unless if we have a freak accident like 2013 Jun 19-22nd (ie PSI 401 3-hr PSI).....which is impossible to predict and sorta a perfect storm scenario anyway.....so no need to think about that.

Good video....just came up on CNA, should serve as a powerful motivation factor for many here......many things i wanna type but i think cant fit.

Just be thankful that we still can do what we love to do with total freedom. Sometimes i do come across folks in wheelchair or need domestic helper assistance to go for evening walks (actually seen 2 just a few hrs ago), feel so thankful liao.

ps. Pro tip, your cheap ass $160+ "health screening" at your GP would do liao. Easy.
Diet/exercise would help heaps as well to lower risk.
That ought to be motivating enough. :ROFLMAO:

Haze from Indo hasn't been a problem for many years. Only the 7th month burning is still ongoing. But I run PCN, so less affected.

Most of us here, already here already made up our mind to run than the average people.

But mobility in old age, exercise plays a more important part. This has been hinder by some proponent who feels as one get older, should do less exercise. In fact the older one get, the more important exercise plays to slow down sarcopenia, bone health. Diet alone will never achieve this. Relaxing exercise, peace of mind tranquility type of exercise will not achieve this.

I make my parents / in-laws walk a lot daily, not only via exercise sessions which for 1 reason or another are rather inconsistent and very occasional, but more like daily errands like fetching kids from school (actually is no need one, but i just make them to do so) and walking commute between my house and my parent's (700m each way), supermarket trip to NTUC (600m away 2 times weekly :ROFLMAO: ) etc.

1 eg, my father who is showing a wee wee bit of mild cognitive decline, ie pre dementia. 1st most common one is vascular dementia (50% of all cases) then followed by Alzeimer's.

Really need the older folks to be active, so many reasons. One big reason is to be able to strengthen the leg muscles, which in turn would lead to a better one leg stand duration test result, which leads to a better all cause mortality outcome.
In fact later gonna go Novena mt elizabeth, one of in-laws relatives fell.

Hope this year not much haze, but the risk of dense/prolonged is very low from what i see.

I think when zone 4/intensive exercise, the respiration is like 6-8 times higher than normal. (volume/number of breaths).
Back in 2015 at my area, seen some folks running in PSI 200-300. Heh.......

6.7km with kids jogging.....very very slow pace....for me is zone 0. :ROFLMAO:

Took a small risk walking up in zone 1-2 50 storeys, fully conversational pace test.

Seems ok, glutes/quads not feeling it. But will see tomorrow if got any new sore areas, that means it is hitting new spots that the racewalk/run/resistance bands strengthening/SIT are not hitting.

Suspect 5-6 circuits of 50 stys shd be fine next time after SSBR 10K (AHM) as part of regime, ala cross training day. But i don't relish adding a weighted backpack like those few fellas i see training at my block, my back got scoliosis (iirc 22mm to the left, forgot which vertebrae ). 🤢
