I've just started trying to do zone 2 running because I read about the various benefits, but it's really hard. Tried to slow myself to a pretty comfortable, consistent gait, but my heart rate seems pretty high. What's the best way to practice - should I just jog-walk-jog instead of run even slower?

For reference, here's the stats I clocked today (2nd attempt).

As a comparison, my usual pace:

BTW I'm using a cheap Apple Watch so the stats won't be too accurate

Walk n jog is fine. Main thing is to be consistent and slowly progress up. It must become automatic to you like how you'd bathe and brush teeth daily (of coz take at least 1 full rest day per week since we dont have access to those full on recovery regime that pros have). Mental aspect.
Not sure if i am reading it correctly but 7-8k seems a bit risky (too high a mileage) if this is your what.....2nd session in a long time?
Can start off with 2-3k.

Thanks ok I will try jog-walk-jog next time.

2nd attempt as in 2nd time trying to get into zone 2 running, haha. The second screenshot was that of a typical run before trying to slow down

It takes a lot of discipline to slow down. Same for cycling, in fact it's probably worse in the cycling scene.
Primarily the best indicator is blood lactate levels, many cyclists would be very surprised should they get a BL meter and start measuring. Interestingly, compared to their very expensive bikes, it's actually a very affordable piece of equipment.

keep doing it cos everyone faces the same issue. don't be afraid to walk+jog instead of slow jog to keep HR within zone 2.
me after months of winter running, now temp rising, HR also spiking up, doing more walks+jog now

i also in zone 2 running.

less strenuous lesser injury too. and its more enjoyable as opposed to chasing after your PB.

i reckon u need to run slow, in order to run fast.

I know it’s not the same, but nowadays I prefer to do incline briskwalking on treadmill
Can really feel the burn for that too, but I find it very mentally challenging to exercise on treadmill…feels like I’ve ran forever but the machine says otherwise haha. Usually I run on treadmill paired with resistance training on Thur, and go for outdoor run on Sat. Other days are resistance training

Incline 13 and at speed 5km/hr is no joke…I can barely last for 30min haha

Saw altercation between Alphard/veilfire at 1 Marina Blvd pedestrian crossing just now, vs a few cyclists (coming from MBS walkway).
You know that area is hotspot for cyclists, be it coming from Nicoll or MBS pathway.

Actually nothing much.....standard for vehicles vs cyclists lah, there is often bad blood....cannot be fixed one.
Cyclists were crossing the road (green man) and the Alphard/Veilfire MPV (quite likely PHV limo......MBS casino area a lot) dont know for what F reason just drove very very close to the cyclists crossing esp to 1 particular cyclist. And of coz the the AMDK would not stand for such shiat, purposely slowed down and raised hands to protest . MPV horned. So after the cyclists passed, the MPV just floored it for like 0.5 seconds and then jammed brake.

Why?

Coz knocked down 2 runners. Heng was just very light knock only.
Suspect coz MPV was focussing on the cyclist(s) and did not notice the 2 runners. Also bo bian, runners clad in dark clothings (i think black, didnt manage to see in detail), and it was just turning bright at just before 7am.

This is the 4th incident / accident i have seen at this junction already. Really cursed.
Those frequenting this place need to take note, not sure about the design or what. (Raffles place curving to Marina Blvd does not help, high speed 6 lanes there with 3 turning right and 3rd one straight + right.

Be very very careful when running across road junctions bros.

Oh, just now also saw 2 vehicles landed onto bushes/pavement of Raffles place MRT, with 1 police vehs (FRS). The people were lying on the floor or sitting. Ambulance not yet arrived.

Some wierd accident, dont know how the buggers drive one. Quite early, just after 6am. But i am not surprised, after all it is Sunday early morning after some folks happy hour.

The bollards splitting the 2 roads "merging" from 2 roads and earlier on coming from Pickering/Church St and traffic signalling helps but i guess still not 100%.

But that place is very accident prone, last time used to have sign there + a skull picture there before they put up the bollards and changed the traffic lights signalling/timing.
Remember it has been like that ever since the 1990s.

Cyclists really have to take note and dont assume other cars will follow rules. Countless times also heard horns from vehicles over there. Also cursed there.

Not only got (fake) boobs, also got speed.
Also, "only" on a Quick Pro AR:One, relatively unknown tiong bike. So, why cannot?
