sigh. Bad living in the east one cant train for hilly terrains.
Can always go to nearby activesg gyms and run incline. I don't live in the east, so can't recommend any. But I know a number of hilly areas around my place.

For males between 45-55 yo and sporty and healthy, and runs 10km/once per week but generally can stretch more.
What are the condition to stop? Should I still run and stop until I cant run any more when young?
I never think about it one.

took a day rest and broke up my 10km run into 2 segments with water break in between. Feeling much better than past 4 runs earlier this week.

Yeah can try breaking it up. I always do that for both running (bo bian one, home-office route) and cycling. So pretty short distances. I mean, it is still effective and works as long as you are consistent. Esp if you are talking about neuro.
Don't wanna pull it out until dont enjoy and then 反效果。 Coz no marathon distances of any sort for me anyway.

ps. But then for recovery wise, my recovery methods i also try to optimise every aspect that i can lay my hands on, other than professional sports massage and ice cold dips, and maybe foam rolling coz i only do that occasionally when i feel a bit off (ie usually i dont do). So not sure if it would work for others esp for those in their 50s/60s (many are not sleep optimised, i know the challenges involved so that is why i supplement)

I am in this age group and how one reacts really depends on one’s conditioning.
You can try different approches, eg.
a) run longer at same or slower pace
b) same distance but faster at the last stretch (depends one’s condition)
But as we age, i don’t encourage we run till we cannot run anymore as recovery can be slow. It is better to build up gradually.
As we run more, we will find a pace/rhythm that is comfortable. Once you find it, you can do different tests to find what works well for you.
Keep trying.

This was what i have been doing last year, breaking up my runs into 2, when I could not complete 10km at one go. As I gradually build up my mileage, stretching beyond 10km till 24km was ok for me.
I guess now i have to go back to basics and slowly build up again. And as @Kuudere suggested, mix some intervals to build up my pace at shorter distances with my usual runs in 2 legs (in this case to and fro, doing shorter distances, eg. 5-6km), then weekends, doing the longer distance, 10-21km LSD.

Jippun lang really can run. I always attribute that to their mental resilience, coz genetically I think they are similar to East Asian like us.

I thought the course was very flat for GCM so its easier to get PR's there, but definitely not discrediting cause the Japanese are more superior than us when it comes to sports, especially running.

It's a fair comparison. Don't know if it's her PR, but she smashed GCM record for women category.

Sometime I think it's our sg population a bit small that talent is limited. You see Japan population is 22 times ours. In sg we only have one Soh Rui Yong but in Japan they can have 22 and they pick out the baddest one.

Imho, I think Japan is more than that. Even USA or Europe so big, so many elite runners, but they don't produce as many sub 2:08 FM runners as Japan. For non African countries, Japan has the most elite runners.

Be cautious when doing hard runs.

I do a breakout threshold run where I fix my 5k pace once a week, intervals 2 days before that. And 15km+ LSD, will work my way to 16km.

The other runs are recovery/steady state. Usually <15% hard run with 1 day crosstraining rest where I don't run.

Good video on why Japan produces a lot of fast runners.

1. Huge pipeline of runners starting back at high school (many 3 min pace runners, 500+ sub-15 min runners by end of high school each year). Burnout isn't an issue there. Wake up early and run more mileage. Forego happiness in pursuit of doing well in running.
2. Ekiden > nationally broadcast run, a lot of japanese runners are inspired to do well in the event so they train hard for it early on.
3. Collective culture > Multiple running teams that are sponsored by corporations, give athletes salaries and what they need to focus on running. Primary focus is on ekiden/marathon.

Good morning guys

I'd walking up stairs will cause damage on our both knee caps.

i believe it doesnt. i climb stairs at hdb too, dont feel any burning sensation on my knees. its a good exercise, dont have to do it fast. just do at your own comfort level.

there's even people doing competitive climbings.
