One tree at MBS near the water bowl got downed. Workers sawing the trunks. Another one near Art Sci museum alsogot downed. Paths partially cordoned off.

Workers also clearing all the palm fronds which were stripped off, at least a good few dowzen fronds got blown off, from the Olympic walk + promonitory all the way to Helix bridge / GBTB.

The 2 big trees nearest to Marina Barrage bridge got downed, total uproot the roots all visible. Got cones cordoning off the running/cycling track and also the NParks security buggy flashing lights.

But jokers still die die wanted to getr across to the other side via the grass field close to the Marina Reservoir, and in the end got semi stuck in muddy fields, some turned back while others perserved.

Really dont know why and the logic of those folks.

It's actually quite dangerous. Got runners RIP before due to downed trees.
Higher chance than getting struck by lightning.

I turned back though, not chancing it coz trees might already be weakened and with wet/loose grounds and it's still actually somewhat windy. Any sudden gusts come or storm again, that is it bros.
Today many trees down everywhere, even at tanjong pagar near mrt. I ran to mbs, turned back, ran to spooner road and up the stairs back to home

It was a Sumatran squall. The front of the squall line can have microburst effect if the rain is heavy enough (ie magenta or even bright magenta on the weather doppler radar). The huge volume of falling moves air also and this changes to a horizontal motion near the front of the squall.

Not sure what was the peak few seconds gust last night, but just a few years ago at CCK a microburst was clocked at over 130kmh destroying some chicken farms and plant nurseries there.

If between buildings the winds can accelerate due to airflow channeling, this effect well documented by typhoons. So folks caught outside need to take care and take note like the fallen debris at UOB below.
Dont take shelter under suspect so-called semi sheltered areas that are only rain protected, go right inside somewhere when you hear howling winds.

Seems like whole island.

Can see the rain fanning out horizontally once it hits the ground, due to the horizontal airflow there.

I also use this effect for tailwind, can touch over 50 kmh if max effort, flat ground. (I cannot claim i do any proper sprints coz i dont off-saddle, for safety, not good at my age if i do crash at such high speeds sure many bones pecah).
Quite fun for bursts at Robinson/Cecil St during weekend mornings as the winds get channeled and faster than open areas.
But then return leg @ Shenton Way would be !@$!@#!@#. :ROFLMAO:

Looks like our buildings are not build to take such storm.

Average resting Heart rate, categorize by age, gender. I guess most of us here would be in the Excellent or Athlete range if we have been consistently running for more than one year with decent mileage ansd assuming have no heart disease. But I think data is biased toward AMDK since the data are from CDC.

https://marathonhandbook.com/whats-a-good-resting-heart-rate/

Average Resting Heart Rate By Age for Men

Think the average AMDK larger and heavier. I not athlete my resting HR averages 48-50.

I have been busy my with my work but I still try to maintain my jogging routine to prepare for the FM in Hanoi.

Recently travelled to Osaka for a short trip. Didn’t expect the weather there to be like sai. I booked a hotel near the river as I saw from Google Maps there was a running path along the river. Not disappointed, some nice change of scenery. I have been successful in losing my weight and now I weight 64 kg fully hydrated, running is getting more comfortable now, hope to hit 63 kg by the time I run the FM in early Nov.

I will be going to Tokyo in November and I also booked a hotel along the river so I can maintain my jogging routine, lol.

https://mustsharenews.com/spin-class-rhabdo/

On Sunday (15 Sept), a netizen took to Instagram to share her life-threatening experience after she participated in a spin class in Malaysia.

Sofea, known by her Instagram handle @sofeashra, claimed she was in great pain after trying out an indoor cycling class for the first time.

Initially, she passed it off as a “normal” muscle soreness.

Little did she know that the pain she was experiencing was more potentially fatal than she imagined.

Doctor had initially dismissed her pain

Unfortunately, her pain persisted days after her spin class session and even kept her awake throughout the night.

She subsequently visited a doctor and was given injections to alleviate her muscle aches.

However, the injections did not ease her agony.

“There’s a smile on my face but I was in so much pain,” she wrote in her post.

The turning point, which shed light on her condition, happened when she posted about her condition on the social media platform, Threads.

In the post, she shared that she had been in persistent pain for more than 2 days after trying out spin class for the first time.

The instructor explained that Sofea’s symptoms could be due to rhabdomyolysis, commonly termed as “rhabdo”.

Rhabdo is a condition that causes muscles to break down, which can lead to kidney damage and failure.

Prompted by this reply, she visited another doctor to get her condition checked.

“Guess what? He laughed at me,” Sofea said in her post.

She added that the doctor told her that rhabdo is “very rare” and only athletes who engage in extreme workouts get it.

Hospitalised for 5 days due to extremely high CK levels

Despite the doctor’s jeers, Sofea went to a hospital to seek further treatment.

The doctors at the hospital performed blood and urine tests to get a more accurate picture of her condition.

To Sofea’s dismay, they found that her Creatine kinase (CK) levels were extremely high.

According to medical reports, high CK levels suggest that the individual is experiencing some type of muscle damage.

“Normal CK levels are less than 300, guess what was mine? 55,000,” she said, recalling her experience.

“I was warded immediately as the doctors said that my condition was very, very bad and if we delay it any further, my whole system could probably shut down.”

She confirmed in her post that she was diagnosed with rhabdomyolysis

After five gruelling days in the hospital, she was discharged, fully recovered.

“If there’s one thing that I learnt from all of this, it is how important being healthy is,” Sofea wrote.

“You never know what you take for granted until it is taken away from you.”

She added that she was not able to use her legs properly for a week.

“All I could think of is how I should be more grateful for all the little things.”

Rhabdo conditions due to spin classes is a common occurrence

Rhabdo is a relatively common occurrence amongst individuals who attend spin classes.

A 2021 study done at the Singapore General Hospital (SGH) showed that there was a surge of young patients suffering from rhabdo because of spin-related physical exertion.

According to the study, doctors speculated “that (the) intensity may be higher in spinning than outdoor cycling, as there is no need to stop for traffic, avoid obstacles or slow down for turns”.

The intense cycling, accompanied by the fast tempo music and dimmed lights, creates an environment for spin cyclists to push harder, even beyond their limits.

In Sofea’s situation, she admitted that prior to the spin class, she was usually “not one to exercise”.

Her extreme reaction to the spin class may have been a result of pushing too hard when her body was not conditioned to the level of intensity of the spin class she participated in.

She also recognised the need to cultivate the habit of exercising in her lifestyle following her ordeal.

MS News had reached out to Sofea for more details regarding her experience.
