Is a grade of GPA 3.5 for Higher Nitec able to get to most of the Diploma courses applied for?

How difficult to get a GPA 3.5 for Higher Nitec?

I do plan to go to ITE and study Higher Nitec since I cannot get into the course I want in Poly, so I will like to know how difficult overall it is to achieve it as I can compare to GCE O levels equivalent.

Thank you.

by any chance r u from o levels? in hnitec, achieving a 2.8/2.9 gpa is able to get u into e worse possible courses available. (cos that's what 'they' say)
so what's above 3.5 is practically a bonus, whether to advance to year 2 or wadever is based on e courses they can offer to u.
i just graduated this early march wif a 3.3 and was offered clean energy at np.

o level> ordinary level
hnitec> more focused on a certain field

so just pick e course that suits u n i believe u'll do well if u have e will to.

Yes, I am from O levels, just that my results for O levels sucks big time and the only courses I can get a shot at are those COP (Cut-Off-Point) with 26 or higher.

Unfortunately, the diploma I want to take very much COP is around 17/18 so totally no chance at all.

I hope that by getting to ITE to study for Higher Nitec and try to archive GPA 3.5 and above will help me get into this course.

So what is being said is I will have to be either the top scorer in the ITE that I am studying in order to have a shot at the diploma I want to take.

This diploma is also so small that it can only take 80 students a year so that makes it even harder for me...:s22:

Don't worry, as long as you get 3.5 and above. You have the chance to direct 2nd year in polytechnic. You should take a look @ this http://polytechnic.edu.sg/jpae/NTC2.html

The list above show the courses offered in all 5 polytechnic. Please choose wisely.

To summarise in general,

As long as you have 3.5 ++ gpa and above and active in CCA. You stand a chance in polytechnic (Direct Year 2). While i can't guarantee you anything yet but you can't possibly choose a course that is very high demand. Everything is about luck i would say.

Worst come to worst, if you cannot get 3.5 and above. Don't worry, you are still able to get into polytechnic (First Year, GPA: 2.0++, Preferred: 3.0 because of competitive issues)

Thanks for all the information.

However, there will be nothing to choose from as it is the Diploma In Network Systems and Security in Ngee Ann Polytechnic or nothing for me...:) I only want to get enroll to this course only and hope I can get in.

I still do not know how difficult to get a GPA 3 or 3.5 in ITE, is it the same level as to get an A or B credit in the subjects in GCE O levels?

Well, for the intake this time almost my whole class got into poly. The lowest being 2.1 which went into RP.

For myself i got into direct year 2 in NYP so it's not hard to attain GPA 3.5> as long you put in some effort into your studies.

Thanks. That is comforting to hear.:) I thot I have to put in super effort to attain GPA 3.5/3.6 as some have to be really good to get As for GCE O levels.

Looks like a Higher Nitec or Nitec is more useful in getting into the Polytechnic if one does not do well with GCE O levels (to get 14-18 point total in 5 subjects), just that have to spend another 2 - 3 years more doing it.

For me, I will find the ITE way much more easier and secure than to go re-take all my GCE O Levels again to attain between 14-18 points which to me is far more difficult since I last sit for GCE O levels 24 years ago.:)

I wouldn't said it was easy for me to get 3.7 GPA at H.nitec. People love to compete with each other naturally.

Yeah. I am just wondering how difficult it is to get 3.5 and above and can be quite sure of getting it to the IT diploma in Ngee Ann Poly where the COP is around 14-18 (I am referencing to using GCE O levels 5 subjects total score, not sure how the COP is calculated for Nitec/Higher Nitec).

I was just wondering if you will be consider the top students in your school if you get GPA 3.6 and above. If that is the case, then I will know how much work I have to put in to get that score.

I am one of those who die die must get into the Diploma In Network Systems and Security at Ngee Ann poly no matter how long it will take me.

I think normally is you get around 3.6 GPA you will already be considered as the top 10 in your course or top 10%, for me i got a final GPA of 3.86 if you want to know, 1 B grade and i'm down to 3.86 in 1 of the terms :(

And if you ask me i think your course is pretty hard to get in unless you can secure 3.8 gpa or higher because it is the one with lower cohort per intake? Normally those requires a higher GPA than normal

Thank you for sharing your info here.

I think I will have to put in 110% effort if I am enrol to the ITE Higher Nitec to stand a chance in getting into the course I am interested in.

How is the GPA compute in ITE? Your GPA of 3.86 is for your entire course duration or just based on final year?

I apologize to TS for the OT here....:o
