hi just to check

i am flying in to Nagoya in Late March and out from Nagoya in Mid April.

If i will be going around the following places

Nagoya
Osaka
Kyoto
Tokyo (3 days max)

would it make sense / value to actually get the 14 days JR Pass?

my Total days in Japan will be around 12-13 days actually.

Just seeking opinon. :s13:

if skip Tokyo then would it make sense to buy still ?

looking at the Normal Pass and not the Green Car :)

not really worth it. maybe you can share your rough itinerary (ie: how many days in each place and staying at where) before we can comment further?

if i were you, i would use the 7 days pass to tour from nagoya to osaka/kyoto then finally towards tokyo. i suppose you are going to stay at tokyo for 3 days at the end without utilising the pass. when you are done, take a day/night bus from tokyo to nagoya for your flight. that tokyo-nagoya bus ride costs around 3k yen :)

Ya you are right. Take private railways instead.

not going to be worth it to get JR pass unless u going to squeeze Osaka, Kyoto and Tokyo into 7 days

ur trip is Nagoya -> Osaka/Kyoto -> Tokyo -> Nagoya
Nagoya -> Osaka: 6360yen
Osaka -> Tokyo: 13940yen
Tokyo -> Nagoya: 10680yen
it is only worth the 29110yen 7-day JR pass if u cover all 3 segment of ur journey with the pass

thus in conclusion it would be better to get a 7 day pass and work the days of travel around it?

i will post my rough itinerary tonight ^^

it is still planning in progress

Osaka would most probably be at Umeda / Namba

Kyoto not decided yet might just take Shinkansen over for day trip and not even stay there.

Nagoya will probably be for last 2 days only.

Wife still wants to visit Wakayama & Shirahama too lol..

not worth. Osaka to Kyoto is only 560yen, and Osaka to Kobe is 410yen. just get single trip tickets

total cost based on the 3 trips is abut 31k yen, so u save about 1k yen only. personally I will not try to squeeze within the 7 days just to use the JR pass.

but if u wanna go Wakayama and Shirahama, then the savings is more. but that will also mean u need to squeeze those two places within the 7 days also, which is already very tight

I used kansai thru pass can use on non consecutive days which was good as I made day trips to Nara and Kobe while based in Osaka and Kyoto. Managed to use some of the discount coupons

depending on where u are staying eg near jr station or not, jr pass might not be useful especially when most of the time u will use metro or bus to travel in Osaka and Kyoto
