Karuiwara is in Nagano prefecture. Round trip shinkansen cost around 12220 yen. JR east pass cost for Nagano area is 17k yen.

So, no need to buy pass since JR subway around Tokyo do not cost that much.

Actually if OP included the NEX tickets, it might break even. It’s ¥3,220 one way.

Are you going to Karuizawa?

Perhaps you want to consider buying the 3 days Tokyo Wide Pass for 10,000yen if you are going to Karuizawa. Check the fare for round trip to Karuizawa to compare to see which is cheaper.

Beside Karuizawa, you can use this pass to other destination too. https://www.jreast.co.jp/e/tokyowidepass/

Probably JR East Pass - Nagano might work for your itinerary. Check your train fares from Hyperdia to see if you could break even.

Please purchase JR East Pass - Nagano in Singapore. You will receive exchange order after the payment. Bring exchange order to JR ticket office in Japan to get that pass.

You will break even if you take round trip shinkansen from Tokyo Station to Nagano Station and one limited express train trip.

Since you are arriving at Haneda Airport, Tokyo Monorail is only few hundred yen. it is insufficient to break even. Try taking limited express azusa from Shinjuku Station to Otsuki Station before transferring to Fujikyu railway towards Kawaguchiko for Mount fuji view. So maximise your flexible 5 days within allowable 14 days.

BTW, you will not have time to explore around yokohama after Mount fuji view.

If i may, you might want to buy your JP rail pass from Klook. There's a $15 code off now (off min purchase of $300)

Thanks for the advice.
Just want to ask, i will be arriving at Haneda, but as im travelling with kids, thought it is better to pay a little extra and take the limosine bus direct to the hotel. is that alot more expensive?
Adult: ¥1230 / Child: ¥620 (one way)

So JREAST pass is usable for 5 days(seperated days) as long as within 14 day? need not be 5 continues day?

It depends on your arriving destination ad the time you boarding. If the nearest station is shinagawa, the cost is only 410 yen via keikyu line (non jr). If the nearest station is shinjuku, the cost is 690 yen with train transfer from Tokyo Monorail to jr (jr pass is applicable)

If you refer to that link, look under 'validity period'. The key word of 'flexibility' is mentioned there. Yes, that is what I said.

My usual routine is like this for 16 days :-

1) 1st day and last day, just buy ticket from machine.
Single trip to Haneda airport from city stations are very cheap.
I like to stay at Shinagawa. Fast train ride from/to airport. No need to take limousine bus.
My next fav hotel site is Ueno because it is a Shinkansen stop.

2) 2nd to 15th day, use the JR pass for Shinkansen rides. This is the primary purpose of the JR passes.
