will be in japan for 8 days (25 Jan 2014 - 1 Feb 2014) and am thinking of buying a 7 days national JR pass.

thinking of going to tokyo on the 26 Jan and remaining days of the trip will be kyoto, hiroshima, kobe etc. comments would be grateful ?

from kansai airport to shin-osaka where my hotel is , may i know what pass should i get for cost effectiveness if i intend to make a side trip to nara?

since u are getting a 7-day JR pass, u can use it to cover ur trip from airport to shin-osaka and also nara.

Nara is roughly one hour away from Osaka

I would suggest dropping Hiroshima from your targets as it is really far away and you are not staying over there to be able to enjoy that part of Japan.

Osaka, Nara, Kyoto, Tokyo is enough to completely fill your itinerary. Nara is practically a day trip.

Kyoto can take up 2 days. Osaka also have quite a bit. Then there is the monster city Tokyo....

the 7-days national JR pass will only be activated on the 2nd day.
i need to make my way to shin-osaka from kansai airport for day 1

i will be in tokyo or abt a week before going to osaka..

juz wondering if it is worth it to buy the JR pass or should i juz use the normal fare?

planning of taking a nite bus to osaka as i could save on one nite hotel as well.

are u flying off from osaka, or do u still need to return to tokyo?
if it is a round trip, then JR pass is worth it coz a single trip from tokyo to osaka on shinkansen is around 13+k yen.

but of course nite bus will be cheaper than taking the train.

JR pass is mainly to cover the expensive trips on shinkansen and ltd.express trains. so for ur case, 7-day pass shld be enough to cover the trips from tokyo to osaka and back.
