When i look up hypedia, i notice that the train fare consisit of both base fare & seat fee.

Does the JR pass cover both base fare & seat fee or only base fare ( i.e. I have to pay additonal for seat fee even I have JR pass) ?

if it's a JR train, the entire fare is covered. this applies for all JR trains except for certain lines that you most likely wont be taking anyway.

and is there really a need to double post the question?

the passes cover the total fare for their respective regions. seriously a bit of googling would have cleared up everything..

Although having a nationwide JR railpass (the 7days, 14days, 21days versions) generally covers all trains operated by JR company, with a few exceptions.
Example:
- You cannot take Nozomi Shinkansen on the Tokaido Shinkansen line...although you can take the Kodama and Hikari Shinkansens which also runs on the same line. The difference is that Nozomi's travel time will be faster since it skips alot of stations along the route.

-same with Mizuho Shinkansen on the Sanyo and Kyushu line. You cannot take Mizuho, but you can take the other Shinkansen that are also running on the same route.

- There are some JR trains that runs on tracks that are operated by non-JR companies. In those cases, even though the train is a JR train, but you still have to pay a surcharge to cover that non-JR portion of the journey.
You can see a list of the trains that runs on parts of non-JR tracks on this page:
http://japanrailpass.net/en/about_jrp.html

Although u can use your JR pass to get free seat reservations on Shinkansen and Ltd Exp trains. but remember you'd still need to go to the JR ticketing office before your journey to book your reserved seat tickets using your railpass so that they can give you a ticket with your train and seat number.

Quick question.

Is 7 days JR pass be sufficient for me?

I'll be touching down in Tokyo Narita > back and forth between Osaka and Kyoto (stay for 7 days in Osaka) > leave Osaka for Tokyo on the 7th day morning.

And also, is standard ticket cheaper than 3 days metro passes in Tokyo?

JR Pass can only be bought OUTSIDE of Japan, so remember to purchase it before you go to Japan.

Once u arrive at Japan on day 1, u bring the JR pass exchange voucher to the JR ticketing office to exchange for your actual railpass. They will then ask you when will you be planning to use the railpass, and then stamp the dates of your intended railpass usage period on the railpass itself.

Once that's done, u can use the railpass to start making seat reservations for your Ltd Exp trains and Shinkansen rides for the 7 day period.

Just get the Metro pass and decide on how many days you want to use. The pick your sightseeing from the list here
http://www.tokyometro.jp/en/attractions/index.html

1 day pass at 800yen. One trip from Tokyo to say Ikebukuro cost only 200 yen. so to make the money worth you need to take 4 trips in order to make the pass worth. If you are not covering much or like to linger longer on each location, the pass may not make sense.

You can also consider this bundle from keisei and metro

depending on where u stay, if u are planning to take narita express (NEX), u can consider getting the discounted round trip ticket.

metro pass is good if u are making many trips on the metro. so plan where u want to go and see if the metro pass is worth buying. otherwise, dun really need any pass, just get their store-value card, SUICA.
