actually what i meant is departing tokyo to osaka via plane and coming back to tokyo by shinkansen (this would be more relaxing pace since i do not intend to cramp my itinerary). perhaps i was being too ambitious using this method and after a thorough calculation, it's more justifiable to take up a JR pass. oh well, i just have to wake up early to catch the train :s13:

Isn't it the same if your flight is early? You have to travel to airport (Haneda and Narita are further away from the Shinkansen stations in Tokyo).

Anyway, there are quite a lot of Shinkansen trains daily. You can have more flexibility here. Just remember that you cannot take Nozomi Shinkansen on the Tokaido Shinkansen Line with JR pass.

KIX to namba (via nankai airport express rapit) only takes about 35mins + you get to travel in their retro design train :)

you probably save some time without NEX (narita-tokyo) & perhaps Shinkansen time (153mins) which i think isn't much

also, i think the NEX & shinkansen seats are definitely more comfortable :)

why not? If i have the time to spare and does not wish to be in a rush but wanna cut short travelling time? Flight to osaka probably takes 1 to 1.5hrs and there are flights almost every hour if i take ANA. I can arrive at Itami airport which is nearer to town (22 mins to namba station via train) which probably faster than arriving from Kansai airport.

upon returning back to tokyo and i opt to take a train, i can slowly waddle my way to the station, spend like 4 hours on traveling time back since the rest of my trip will be based in tokyo.

anyway, thanks for your input :)

Ok I get what you mean. Initially I thought you refer to a single bounty from Tokyo to Osaka or vice-versa is by train + plane which got me confused.

You can go with your method. But the single trip from Osaka to Tokyo by Shinkansen is not cheap. So getting a JR pass can save quite substantially. So it depends on your itinerary and budget.

Since I'm not driving, that's why the jr pass, I will not go all the way to Wakkanai. Place I'll be going would be Hakodate, Noboribetsu, Shiraoi, Furano, Biei, Asahikawa when doing train transfer, Sapporo, Otaru and Yoichi for whiskey.

i dun plan to drive too. How long will you be in Hokkaido? did you get the 4-day flexi JR pass (use within 10 days) or the 7-day consecutive pass?

Hakodate - 2 nights
Noboribetsu - 2 nights
Furano - 2 nights
Sapporo - 4 nights

7 day pass because additional $20 only.

You only buying for 1 person?

There's another promo code if you spenda min of $200 (go to their fb page for more details).

Code is KLOOKIS4 $14 off till end of this month.

https://www.klook.com/promo/sg-birt...utm_medium=social&utm_content=promo_bday_sale

Thanks! Its for 2 person but the kansai hiroshima JR pass (since im planning to go Hiroshima) does not exceed S$360. Its okay because I just realise I could essentially need the Kansai through 2/3 pass.. Is there any overlap between the Kansai through pass and Hiroshima regional rail pass?
