if you defer your enlistment date, like for e.g school semester retain 1 sem etc, there is a chance to get reposted.

Unless you differ or sign on i think there's very little chance of changing. Was in the same predicament as you are last time. Really wanted to serve ns in the saf. Even talked to my MP/GRC for help in changing. Got back a letter declining my request. Was not the best feeling knowing that you have to serve 2 years in a force that you heard/know very little about.

But not all bad news though. Realized that its actually a blessing in disguise that i was posted to SCDF. Am now serving as a section commander in a fire station. have been on many emergency runs, some big fires others small. from rescue incidents to false alarms.

now as my ord date gets closer, i realized how lucky i am to be posted in scdf. not many gets to respond in a pumper. My advice, if you want to get the most out of ns in SCDF, aim to be posted as a section commander or firefighter in a station assuming you are pes A or B1. will definitely get some very interesting experiences. Though prepare for tough times ahead if posted to scc or ffc.

Yea before my posting. Prior to that didnt know very much about SCDF. Knew no one that was from SCDF. So my primary source of info was from forums. Before, I was one of the many who has this mindset about scdf, "huh SCDF do what ah, lepak ah? singapore got fire meh everyday?" Sad to say i was that ignorant.:s11:

If you are pes A/B1 then should be no problem. Just show your interest. during your BRT they will ask recruits to write down your prefered vocations. You can also talk to your PC if you want. If you have no discipline or health problems then high chance to get posted to FFC.

That was the procedure for my batch. Currently if im not wrong, those selected for FFC/SCC will go through BFFC or basic firefighting course first. Then from there they will select those with potential to go through 6 months scc while the rest continue on with 3 months ffc. If you have a diploma/a-levels better chances of going scc though not guaranteed.

Like i said, i was one of many who had the wrong idea. And btw, it turns out that there are many fire/emergency calls everyday. just that most are not significant enough to be shown in the news. Which was why i believe many including myself have that impression prior to researching.

TS, I was a former instructor with SCDF. PM me if you got any question, will try to help.

If you are PES A/B, 99% will go for fire training. If you got HNitec/Poly, high chance go Sect Comdr training but not a guarantee.

If you got criminal record no matter how trivial, no chance to go there. If fit, there will throw you to Special Rescue.

If you CMI, will go to other vocations like Infocomms, Provost, Clerks.

I advise you to start training asap on your 2.4km and weight training. Now got new commander sibei on, he demand 100% IPPT passing rate from what I heard from my juniors.
