paiseh ive been taking train for the past many years, the last time i take bus the CW is pay cash or soemthing one. but nowadyas with teh egate at train checkpoint like a bit not efficient... clear finish customs still need wait 15-20 mins den train start to move.

Pay whichever bus you want to use to get to Woodlands Checkpoint.

Then once through SG customs , just get on a bus going to Malaysia customs once through , no need pay again.

Then do same for reverse journey.

If you take SG public bus to woodlands, then just any of the SG public bus across the causeway. Scan ezlink/simplygo.
Afaik, if you switch to other bus company, then they charge a flat fare.
