Hi Guys/Girls ,

Will be heading japan next week and trying to finalize my itinerary. Upon researching i found out about this " Kansai Thru Pass ".

Just wondering will it be worth to get it based on this 3 day itinerary.

Day 1 - Kyoto - > Osaka - > Kyoto
( Kyoto -> Osaka ~ ¥400 * 2 )

Day 2 - Kyoto -> Osaka -> Kobe(Mt rokko) -> Kyoto
( Kyoto -> Osaka ~ ¥400 , Osaka -> Kobe ~ ¥300 , Kobe -> Kyoto ~ ¥600)

Day 3 - Kyoto -> Nara -> Kyoto
( Kyoto -> Nara ~ ¥600 , Nara -> Kyoto ~ ¥600 )

Total will be ~ ¥3300 , just a rough calculation

3 days pass will cost ¥5200

Will it be worth to get the 3 days ? or 2 days ?

Thanks.

it is not worth getting the kansai thru pass based on ur itinerary. just buy single trip tickets can already. also, note that kansai thru pass is not valid for JR trains. some routes, such as from kyoto to osaka, is a lot more convenient on JR lines.
Rail Pass: Kansai Thru Pass (Surutto Kansai)

btw, where u got the costing from? fare doesnt seem correct. e.g kyoto to osaka is 560yen via JR special rapid.
u can check the fares here:

Did you use Hyperdia.com to calculate the fares? i did a rough check and found you estimations are mostly on the low side.

I based my calculation on Rail Pass: Kansai Thru Pass (Surutto Kansai)

A rough check on hyperdia shows that JR is faster with less transfer while using the pass seems longer.

Would ICOCA works on JR ? because i would be getting the "Haruka & ICOCA" from KIX to kyoto

ICOCA is a cashless payment contactless card. Most transport would accept it. Some vending machines too.

Im also wondering for this "Haruka & ICOCA" package
if we buy 2 way trip will we be able to choose alight n depart from different place?
Eg. 1 way go to kyoto, and coming back from tennoji or shin-osaka?

If we choose this way, do we need to inform the counter when we purchase this card?

From what I gathered, if you take the unreserved return trains, you can board the Haruka in any of the designated stations.

Who is eligible to purchase KANSAI THRU PASS

KANSAI THRU PASS is a special ticket available only for tourists visiting Japan for the purpose of sightseeing. You will need to meet one of the following requirements in purchasing a ticket.

*2pieces of tickets per person are available for purchase at max.
(Combination of different tickets is ok.)

is there a limit on how many a person can buy?
i intend to buy 2+3 days
