Hi, I will be flying to Kansai via SQ and will only arrive at 930pm. Would it be too late to catch the trains to Kyoto JR?

Cheers :)

No, you have time.

Since you are referring especially to JR, I assume you have a JR Pass and you want to use it (a bit the waster but up to you), you can catch that direct JR Haruka.

I am arriving around the same time too on SQ. The Haruka Express goes all the way from KIX to Kyoto.

Hi thanks. Yes, most likely using the JR Pass, but what do u recommend?

Since you are arriving by SQ, the flight reaches KIX at 930pm and so probably you will be out of the airport by 10pm latest. You can take the 10:14pm Nankai Airport Express to Shinimamiya, change to any of the trains going to Osaka Station, and catch the next departing train to Kyoto. Altogether only 1840 JPY. You will arrive later than the JR Haruka for sure, but at most half an hour later.

The Haruka is 2850 JPY unreserved and 3170 JPY reserved. Depends if you have no other days to make use of your JR Pass.

Of course, you need to weigh the benefit of a direct train where you do not have to drag your luggage around when you change trains at Shinimamiya and Osaka Station.

I think there is this https://www.westjr.co.jp/global/en/travel-information/pass/icoca-haruka/ pass you can make use of. Save quite a lot.

See here too --> ICOCA & Haruka

I think it is good for first time visitors to Japan who doesn't already have a SUICA or ICOCA card. It is also good for visitors who want the convenience of taking a direct train to Kyoto on arrival. I suppose JR Haruka has to do this as their normal tickets are too expensive compared to the Nankai Rap:t and Airport Express, JR Airport Rapid and the Airport Limousine bus.
