If you know clearly what you want to do in life, feel free to go to private. End of the day, its just a degree and you save 2 years of your life. Local poly is a huge waste of time really... You don't need 3 years to do a diploma.

If you have the cash, just go overseas for your degree after your private dip.

You need to relax. You are only in your FIRST semester! 3.1 is ok. With 2.5 years to go, you can improve your GPA.

However, if you choose to give up and go to do a PRIVATE diploma. Then I can assure you. You will NEVER get into the local universities like NUS, NTU, SMU, SUTD.

Your chances of going into these local universities is ZERO.

And I just want to share with everyone one here. You can't go to the local universities with a private diploma. If you don't believe, just call the admissions office lah... they will tell you. Don't say I never warn you.

Hi I'm a current temasek polytechnic year 1 student, just completed my first semester and have a GPA of 3.1. I think it's kinda impossible for me to enter local uni like Nus, SMU and so on except SIT. I am thinking of going to a private institute like kaplan as they offer a faster path to get my degree. 8 months diploma and 18 months bachelor. I am thinking of getting bachelor of science (honours) in management with international business from royal holloway, university of London.

As I'm taking a business course in temasek poly, I think it's alright to transfer to private as business course is quite commonly offered by private institute unlike applied science or engineer course. What would you all recommend or suggest?

even unisim no longer takes private dip as their entry requirement, now they insist on local dip.

THE employer will hire the one with the better attitude more connected to their job requirements. What makes you think it is all just paper talk? A true HR professional will look at the characteristics of the candidate and if they actually suit the working environment, the team they will work with.

You are talking about govt jobs? Yes, local papers are wanted here. It is to PROTECT the local graduates.

I've been in Human Resources for 6 years, and what you have said is very unprofessional in giving others the wrong impression.

That said, I agree with ts staying in the local poly. Never give up, and all the best.
Pump. Ar pump
A private diploma with relavent experience and compare a local diploma with no experience, what do u think employer will choose?

For young people like you, please complete the basics first. Get a local diploma and then decide thereafter. U have time on your side. Dont rush and regret later.

With a Local Dip in hand, be it whatever GPA you have, is a lot more valuable thn a private diploma which holds no water.

If u ask me honestly, DL Degree are catered to people who are working and require the degree to further their careers. Armed with the relevant experience and the degree, its a bonus to their careers.

No disagreement! Regardless DL degree still worth more than a Local Dip.

I don't regret going for a DL degree instead of part-time local degree, at least I get to choose my choice of degree, which PT local degree does not offer.
P.S. I've no prior work experience, am freshgrad from Murdoch (Bsc in Comp Sci) just got a job offer higher than my expected salary, sub company under govt.
