Planning to take this from Ueno (1 way).

Seems like there is only date but no fixed time, when purchasing the voucher.

Any experience to share if there will be seats on the next available train if I just turn up at the station like 20-30mins before my preferred train departure time?

As I don't intend to visit Ueno, another idea is to redeem the voucher and fixed the train timing at Narita. But Klook says can only redeem at the departure station unless it is a round trip.

TIA

Even if you purchase via Keisei official website, you don't get to choose timing - only the date. I have never encountered any issue with my preferred train being full; their skyliners run quite frequent anyway. But do give yourself some buffer time just in case, especially if you are catching a plane.

Thanks for the advice.

How much earlier do you think is advisable to arrive at Keisei Ueno station in order to secure the preferred departure timing? Will half an hour be sufficient?

My flight is in late morning so I figure that I will take the 8-9am train in order to reach airport by 9-10am so that there will be 1.5-2h before takeoff

Just to add on. The skyliner runs about once every 40 minutes. Other trains do run in between but they stop in between so are slower.

My own experience in Sep was they stop selling seats 5 minutes before the train departs. The person in front of me got the departing train, I missed the cutoff so I waited about 45 mins for the next train. I believe if you use suica all the way you can still go up on board and pay a surcharge/penalty to the conductor and not be assigned a seat.

BTW Keisei Ueno station is quite far from JR Ueno station. It’s fine if you start your morning from there but if you are connecting trains Keisei Nippori and JR Nippori are adjacent and more convenient.

Thank for the tip on transferring at nippori, will look into it... I am staying around Yurakucho area, will need to see how to get to nippori

For my preferred timing at Ueno, there are trains every 20mins

If you already at Nippori station, can just take the Keisei Main Line Express at ¥1050 ?

Express train probably crowded? May not be so comfortable with luggages
I’m going to take the express train this coming Friday, my return flight is in the morning as well, but I just carrying a backpacker bag.

do u have a lot? 1 suitcase and backpack still doable if u can grab a seat......
Probably have 2 (or 3) big luggage and 2 hand carry.

The seats are the standard type , face to face like our MRT?

think got 1 over head rack but ur case, take the skyliner. normally u can put it on the seat next to u. think got 1 area u can stash large luggage on the skyliner too.......

also consider airport bus.......

Was looking at Airport limousine but it is too early for my flight and frequency is not good at my preferred pickup point.

@Sauron

The crowd at Nippori station for the 6:05am Skyliner, the train came from Ueno station was 90% empty, but after the crowd boarded, it becomes 95~97% full.

The pic below was when I boarded the main line at 6:11am. The train has overhead rack as mentioned earlier by xdivier.

p.s. Yesterday I tried walking from the JR Ueno station to the Keisei station at Ueno. The connection route is not convenient/direct, has to find the specific exit to get out from the JR station then cross the road in getting to the Keisei station. Maybe this is why the Skyline came from Ueno station was so empty.
