Kindle vs Kobo?

Kindle all the way for me

Majority of my ebooks comes from the NLB Overdrive which are free for library members. Kindle doesn't support Overdrive ebooks. I download the Overdrive ebooks to my PC and use Adobe Digital Edition to transfer the books Kobo ereader.

This gets cumbersome after a while and I am eyeing the Onyx Boox Nova or Poke as my next ereader which will allow me to skip the PC and get my ebooks direct to the ereader.

The Boox devices are running Android which also means I can surf websites on e-paper. I look forward to have my usual Android news on Nova!

So for Overdrive only Kobo can use? I saw Kobo Aura 6in N514 and N613 selling on Aliexpress around us70. Any issues using locally? I want to upload pdf epub files directly. I don't want to go thru conversions, vpn or stuff...

Any non-Kindle, non-Kobo around $100 to recommend?

If you want a low cost e-reader, can try for a pre-owned unit without night light function. IMHO a pre-owned well known brand offers better value than a new cheap unknown brand. My kobo had lasted me 4 years and the batts are still good.

Thanks. Just wondering why the Kobo Aura selling on aliexpress are so cheap compared to amazon jp and us. But a number of the aliexpress reviews said had minor defects like scratches, one reported display issue.

In the Kobo models with Overdrive onboard (no just KA1 anymore), you can log into NLB on the device and browse like shopping. having overdrive really changes the workflow man, I used to download or borrow then copy to ereader...

From what I have read, the kobo Overdrive implementation has several restrictions.
1. The library book you want to loan must also exist in kobo store.
2.The book is delivered via kobo store, not from Overdrive itself.
3. This is only officially supported in 4 countries. But heard someone has got it working on a non-supported country.

Yup. I heard there is a Tolino ereader that has built-in ADE so you can download the Overdrive book directly from the device web browser. Sony old ereaders like the PRS-T1 had this capability too.

Evaluating Kobo. Impt is to borrow NLB books on the ereader. Are the restrictions mentioned above still ?

- the NLB books must be in Kobo Library in order to be loan out
- or must side load ?

I wonder if we buy from local stores like Court or Challenger, the warranty still provided overseas or local ?

I think our NLB subscribes to the Overdrive service to provide the ebooks. If you go to NLB on your computer and try to borrow a ebook, it redirects you to the overdrive website. So I think naturally, if Overdrive does not have the book, then NLB would not be able to lend out the book too. Just my thoughts.

Looking at the Clara HD but some reviews say the Overdrive integration isn’t as great as the more expensive models.

Hoping for some users to report their experiences
