Hello, I am arriving at BKK on 28 Oct and I know the King's cremation is on 26 Oct which is declared as a public holiday. Will the shops at JJ market, platinum mall be opened?

Maybe no. Most will go pay respects. Also depends on the rule for that day if allowed to open shop or not.

my advice, avoid that week if you going for holiday.

It is hard to predict the small shops will open or not. Major stores can view the the announcement. Smaller shops depends on their mood and what the local law dictate during that period.

actually b4 that (since months ago), already have reports suggesting tourists dont visit BKK during Oct periods. anyhow since you already bought the tickets, go there and see lo. no choice right? Just be prepared to get very packed and maybe a lot of big malls also have their own "pay respect" event...security gonna be tight, so try bring as little belongings e.g small pouch, if need to.
is gonna be a big big event.
I think most of the media (TV channels) will go into monochrome tone (black and white) soon.
