Saw this at MBS. The sub packs a punch compared to my el cheapo 2.1 creative speakers.

saw so much prob with the 2.1 so think i very heng.
grab a set from SLS about 1mth+ back. no imbalance prob.
But to make sure i don't have this problem, i never touch the volume know, i use windows volume control, my kb have media keys.
also realise no need to off volume before switching main power plug off. there is no poping sound.
this is my 2nd set, my 1st set lasted 4yrs before amp spoil (now i used the 2 old sats as rear for 4.1)
i really like the sound and the bass blew me away, i need it for movie and games. not saying that it is not good for music, in fact for music, i felt that promedia beat aego m. aego m really need to b pretty loud to perform while promedia sounds good even at low volume.

Was bought in MBS and do the same as you. Adjusting volume thru Windows Sound Control. It's impress me with the gaming and movie. For music, it's pretty good and bass hunter except voice not so clear. My view although.. Let's enjoy the Promedia bro :s12:

I've hear plenty of raving reviews about the PM2.1 since the early 2000s.

Now, I'm intending to change from my Creative Inspire S2 that I've had for 4 years. I'm mainly (80%) into music (mostly indie, some pop, alternative; no heavy metal types) and the occasional (20%) movie/TV show. What I read about the PM2.1 is that its strength is the bass.

I'm not one of those who love plenty of bass. I prefer the "mmmmmm" kind of bass, than the "thump thump thump" kind of bass. Meaning it has to go low, but not be overwhelmingly like a loose cannon when it comes to pop (such as Katy Perry songs). It needs to be solid but not overpowering.

1. Is the PM2.1 suitable for me? I haven't found a Challenger outlet that has it on display, so I haven't auditioned it personally.

2. Also, I will be connecting it to my Audinst HUD-MX1. Can I do so via RCA cables? i.e. Macbook Pro -> USB -> Audinst HUD-MX1 -> RCA -> PM2.1

3. Is the speaker imbalance thing a common occurence? Or is it just a small sample size I'm seeing here. I need a peace of mind to use it for at least 5 years.

Can consider Aego M and Swans M50W ard $300. More for clarity like for music. Promedia have to audition on your own. See if the signature suits you. The bass maybe good for games and movies for low volume. Try it out,esp when at louder volume.

The Swans M50W looks nice (and surely sounds good since you compare it to the Aego M).

Do you know where I could audition and get a pair locally?

Thanks.

Went to Cybermind. Love how the Swan sounded. Regretfully I didn't get to audition the Klipsch. Cybermind's online price list showed they carry it but they had no stock. Decided to buy the Swan, but was pissed off by an extremely rude china woman, something I never expected from Cybermind, a place I go as my 1st choice. Anyway, I end up buying an Aego M downstairs, which was properly set up and sounded even better then the Swan (and cheaper at $298 vs $328).

I managed to audition the Klipsch at Challenger's nex outlet. They label it as a best seller, but when I auditioned it, it had the audio imbalance thing between the left and right speaker. A little reminiscent of the Gigaworks T3 syndrome where the volume jumps up and down. Now I know what you guys mean when you say the bass is good, cos it is decent. Time to try the Aego M and Swan. But I'm leaning to the Aego cos of the form factor: small satellites and the subwoofer can be on the floor. The Swan's subwoofer looks like it has to be on the table with the satellites which are huge.

Where can I find the Aego M?

I got the S2 too and nearly bought the ProMedia

"luckily" i saw the real thing and the design and size really unacceptable to me

the sound quality s2 is quite good already and has much nicer and smaller satellites

Hey just to confirm on the above, if I were to buy a Promedia now, I can't change the speaker cables? What is the length of the cables?

Thanks.

LOL s2... if you think s2 sounds good, you're not one who should be looking at any higher end.

Is the promedia 2.1 able to link up with consoles for the sound as I'm using my monitor more often for gaming nowadays. Seems hard to find such a speaker which does so.
