BLACKPINK’s Jisoo And Seo In Guk Confirmed For New Rom-Com

BLACKPINK’s Jisoo And Seo In Guk Confirmed For New Rom-Com

It’s official—BLACKPINK’s Jisoo and Seo In Guk will star in a new drama together!

On February 20, Netflix confirmed that Jisoo and Seo In Guk will star as the leads in the upcoming drama “Boyfriend on Demand” (working title).

“Boyfriend on Demand” is a romantic comedy set in a virtual world where one can subscribe to a boyfriend, and the connections made in the virtual world continue into real life. The drama will be helmed by director Kim Jung Sik of “Work Later, Drink Now,” “Strong Girl Namsoon,” and “No Gain No Love.”

Jisoo plays Seo Mi Rae, a webtoon producer longing for a second chance at love in virtual reality. Used to a life without romance, she unexpectedly receives a “Monthly Boyfriend” device, allowing her to enter a virtual world. There, she experiences an exhilarating dopamine rush as she rediscovers love through encounters with impossibly perfect men. Through Seo Mi Rae, Jisoo—who has showcased her versatility in various projects—delivers a story that resonates with modern audiences.

Seo In Guk stars as Park Kyeong Nam, a fellow webtoon producer and Seo Mi Rae’s coworker and rival. To Mi Rae, he’s the last person she wants to see, yet in the office, he’s known as one of the best. Though he appears cold and self-centered, he hides a surprising secret that adds intrigue. Fans are eager to see Seo In Guk bring Park Kyeong Nam to life, a character set to shake up Mi Rae’s world.

“Boyfriend on Demand” will stream on Netflix.

K-dramas shift to shorter seasons as 16-episode format fades

The traditional 16-episode K-drama format is increasingly being replaced by 12 or even 10-episode seasons, reflecting audience demand for tighter narratives and quicker storytelling.

Recent series such as "Motel California," "Love Scout" and "The Queen Who Crowns" all follow the 12-episode structure. Streaming services have played a significant role in this shift, as the way viewers consume dramas continues to evolve.

Previously, dramas would span 24 episodes before being reduced to 20 and eventually settling at 16 for many years. However, a further contraction has taken place, with many recent dramas airing only 12 episodes. Disney+'s "Unmasked" and the upcoming "The Potato Lab" are both 12-episode series. KBS recently announced that their new romance-themed "Drama Special" would follow the same format. Some series, like "Good Girl Boo Semi," have gone even shorter with just 10 episodes.

Other recent productions such as Channel A's "The Witch," Tving's "Study Group," and Netflix's "Melo Movie" have also adopted the 10-episode model. Netflix's "The Trauma Code," which gained significant attention both domestically and internationally, consists of just eight episodes. Originally planned as 10 episodes of 60 minutes each, the show was restructured into eight 45-minute episodes to enhance pacing. This adjustment allowed "The Trauma Code" to deliver an intense and engaging narrative suited to modern viewing habits.
