Hey all,

If I have booked a Confirmed flight and a waitlist flight on the same day via miles redemption, I can't book seating on my confirmed flight until the waitlist clears.

I'm okay with this, but I want to make sure my confirmed flight is what it is - confirmed.

It is right? I will still minimum get the confirmed flight, and the waitlist is a bonus only that may or may not come? If so, when will it allow me to book my confirmed flight seating?

You redeemed a one-way or return ticket? If return and only 1 of the leg is confirmed, you will need to wait for the waitlist leg to be confirmed before you can be issued with ticket.

My experience has been that I could choose seats on my confirmed flight whilst waitlisting for another flight on the same day. Not too sure why you can't.

I think you have to get the tickets issued. This was what happened to me. I was alerted that I had to get my tickets issued. I called the helpline because apparently ticket issuance could not be done online. Whilst the tickets are issued, seats can also be assigned by the helpline clerk. My waiting reservation was cancelled.

Both are 1 way. So I would have to call hotline? okay.

EDIT: It is saying We regret that seat selection is not allowed as your booking contains waitlisted or unticketed segments.

So I have to get ticketed for the confirmed first? But once I do I can't change to waitlist if I succeed?

Either way, I have made changes to my name and called them about it, the girl said she can change it on her end but till now I see no difference. I faxed over the name change form as well.. I'll give it until next week before I call anyway - I need to change my name first :/

You can change to your waitlist once it clears even if you have ticketed for the confirmed. Best to call KF and speak to an agent.

Usually if under waitlist, isn't it very risky? What happen if last min they say no available slot, then the holiday go to waste? Correct me if I am wrong...

That's why you ticket the confirmed flight first before waitlisting :)

sorry to hijack.. im looking to user miles under savers to get a ticket to the US in Dec.. problem is i can get the departure flight leg but the return leg is under wait list.. which is quite weird considering its 6 months away..

wanna ask if SQ generally blocks all their seats around the xmas period cause it seems all the dates in 2H Dec are blocked out .. if so that means i can never get my miles redemption for xmas season to US

pls advice thx

It is not weird becos dec is the holiday/travel season. most travelers book their ways way in advance, sometimes 10 months in advance. 6 months in advance is already considered late. SQ never block their seats. there's only a small allocation of seats on each flight for redemption. for 2x dec, even paying seats/flights are usually booked way in advance. next time, plan earlier.

If I have booked a Confirmed flight and a waitlist flight on the same day via miles redemption, I can't book seating on my confirmed flight until the waitlist clears.
You can always book seats on the confirmed, ticketed flight, regardless if you have another one on waitlisted or not.

I'm okay with this, but I want to make sure my confirmed flight is what it is - confirmed.
Have you paid for the taxes, etc.

It is right? I will still minimum get the confirmed flight, and the waitlist is a bonus only that may or may not come? If so, when will it allow me to book my confirmed flight seating?
If it is really confirmed, yes, you will minimum get the confirmed flight.

Both are 1 way. So I would have to call hotline? okay.
Please give more details, like the entire itinerary, and which are waitlisted, and which are confirmed and what have you done?

For example, you can book SIN - NRT - LAX as a 1 way, however, you can be confirmed on SIN - NRT but waitlist on NRT - LAX, this way, you cannot ticket this and thus unable to select seats.

EDIT: It is saying We regret that seat selection is not allowed as your booking contains waitlisted or unticketed segments.
As per my previous comments, there is something you mis-understood about how the system works, so we need the full details rather than description as you might have mis-understood the terms used.

So I have to get ticketed for the confirmed first? But once I do I can't change to waitlist if I succeed?
Krisflyer allows free change of dates on confirmed tickets.

You'd need the return leg booked somewhere, or as a back up to the waitlist. You should start looking for saver awards in higher booking class first before going to standard awards. I'd book both as 1-way each (SIN - USA, and USA - SIN), ticket the outbound, then waitlist for the return. Have a back up flight ticketed, cancel if your waitlist clears.

You never know. It can never clear, or clear immediately. Call and ask for their advice, as they can see how full the flight is and can then better advice if the waitlist have chance to clear or not. I've got a waitlist clear exactly 1 week before flight date (2 legs in the old first class, 1st leg having only like 4 pax out of 14 passengers, second leg have like 8 out of 14 full). They might not even release seats even if they are empty, especially for premium seats.

In all the times that I have been waitlisted in the past, the waitlist would almost always clear 1 week before the date of travel.

Partly because most people just put themselves into multiple waitlists, so you can do that as well

What I've done was to book and ticket myself on economy class flying into US, and then waitlist on a business class ticket. I've spoken to the KF CS staff and they advised that I would be able to upgrade my ticket to business should it become available.

Hence, either way I should have a ticket to US.. the only variable will be the class of seat

(all above done with redemption of KF miles)

Trying the same thing now. Booked commercial ticket. When trying for direct upgrade it is not available. So I booked a business award on waitlist. If wait list clears I intend to user it for the economy to business upgrade

iirc, the booking class for full redemption and upgrade is different. So say your biz class full redemption seat is confirmed, you can't use it for upgrade from a paid economy ticket to an upgrade biz class seat. Cos there's a different quota for different seats. Likewise, if your upgrade seat is confirmed, it can't be used for a full redemption.
