Trying the same thing now. Booked commercial ticket. When trying for direct upgrade it is not available. So I booked a business award on waitlist. If wait list clears I intend to user it for the economy to business upgrade

Are you able to waitlist the upgrade?

iirc, the booking class for full redemption and upgrade is different. So say your biz class full redemption seat is confirmed, you can't use it for upgrade from a paid economy ticket to an upgrade biz class seat. Cos there's a different quota for different seats. Likewise, if your upgrade seat is confirmed, it can't be used for a full redemption.

There have been conflicting information about this. Though they book into the same fare class technically, people have reported that although there might be saver award available yet the upgrade does not go through. However, calling might help with getting the upgrade to take the available inventory.

just an update. the waitlist for business saver redemption cleared after about 1 month. tried to get them to use the pure redemption to upgrade the commercial booking instead. they said it was not possible.

oh well. had to cancel the commercial booking and use more miles than i had originally planned.

If you don't like the answer, put down the phone and call again. BTW, did you get SG call center or India Call Center? ICC is notorious for being poorly trained in more advanced reservations like yours.

Resurrect this thread.

I redeemed my tickets to Taipei, and selected a confirmed flight as well as the waitlist flight. But I was not asked to pay any taxes; so is my confirmed flight confirm?

edit:

Ok, called SQ and got an answer. My confirmed flight is confirmed as of now but tickets are not issued because of the waitlist. Cutoff date is 21 August 1pm.

If my wait list is successful, they will drop me an email to get my credit card details for payment. Otherwise, my confirmed tickets will be dropped. They advise me to call in the morning to find out the situation.

Assuming you are saying you are booking like SIN - TPE - confirm and TPE - SIN - waitlist. Kindly note that your reservation is not ticketed until all legs can be confirmed. Please book it as 2 one-way tickets, so you can ticket the confirm leg first. Also, before you even look at standard / full redemption rates, please look at the saver redemption for higher class of service first (ie business saver should still be cheaper than economy standard award).

If you prefer to hold on without payment, then your trip might or might not have confirmed air tickets until (god knows when), if you are able to live with that. Also, you might want to considering booking a higher class of service (if available) until your preferred one becomes available, then cancel the current booking.

I booked a one way SIN-MUC confirmed flight, and another waitlisted flight on the day before (preferred day to fly).

If the waitlist clears, will my flight automatically the shifted to the previous day? Or what should I be expecting?

No, it won't shift over automatically. They will let you know that the waitlist has cleared and prompts you to complete the booking (ie pay the taxes etc). You should not do that as by doing that, you would have 2 bookings and need to pay to cancel one. Instead, you should give SQ a call, tell them you want change the date of your flight to the preferred date, which has a cleared seat. Changing of dates is free of charge, assuming both are the same booking class.

Usually the airline will call to inform. But then if you don't want the waitlisted flight, then why bother waitlisting on it? Therefore it is assumed that you want the waitlist flight and sometimes the system will cancel the 'confirmed' flight and confirm you on the 'waitlisted' flight which has become confirmed.

If I get you correctly, what you're saying is, once the wait list clears and prompt me to make payment, I should call SQ and request for a date change, and not to pay for the cleared wait list. Right?

I want the wait listed flight. That's my 1st choice. The confirmed flight is my 2nd choice..

see stars

Hi sorry to hijack here.

I saw a friend's air ticket and I do not understand a bit of it, so maybe your experts here can shed some light help me understand.

Under the same person's name, day, time, destination but have one flight stated "confirmed" with seat allocated, and another stated "waitlisted". What does it mean? Is it possible? Or is the waitlisted meant another totally different seat? Can the waitlisted be used for another passenger but booked under the same person's name? I see stars.

Thanks

Waitlist means you are waiting, name on a list, ie, queuing up. No confirmed seat.

Hi Sorry to hijack again.

My question, I have waitlisted for one-leg flight, and called in. The answer it's possible to get confirmation from now til 3 hours before departure.

I noticed on Krisflyer website, that Change of date on Singapore Airlines and SilkAir flights redemption flight is free of charge.

If I redeem an award flight on a later (confirmed) date, will I be able to change it back to my preferred date online(I checked the commercial tickets and there are still a lot).

Thanks

Don't lump redemption with paid tickets. The seats allocation is different. Even if there may be plenty of saleable tickets, they can/will be used for staff and/or other airlines staff for staff/industry tickets/travel.

You answered your own question.
