KVM switch (WFH)

Hi, I like to use the same set of wired mouse, keyboard and monitor with my personal desktop and my work laptop. I have just bought a 27 inch Acer monitor with the following connectivity: "Connectivity : HDMI, HDMI (2.0), DisplayPort (1.4), Audio out"

My work laptop will be a HDMI out and my pc is using a RX580 that support HDMI and Display port and DVI. (Currently using DVI)

My 2 options are:

Purchase UGREEN USB HDMI KVM Switch 4K Ultra HD HDMI Switcher Box For Sharing Monitor and connect them via HDMI and will probably be a 1 click solution, but I am not sure if the KVM switch can handle 1440p resolution.

Other option is just to purchase the UGREEN Original USB Switch Selector 2 PCs Sharing 4 Devices for Mouse Keyboard and connect the keyboard and mouse with it. So to toggle between system, it will be 2 clicks instead of 1.

Which will be better? In the long run, I am likely to upgrade my GPU too.

- Upgrade to Logitech MK850 keyboard and mouse.

Yes, I don't mind staying at 60fps for now as my GPU is not very strong too. But if the switch keeps giving frame drop issues, then it will be an issue. With the helpful comments below too, i think 2nd option will be best, thank you!

Thanks for the keyboard and mouse recommendation, for now i think the Ugreen USB 3.0 switch will be better for my setup

KVM support @60 only.
If you want to go > 60 please don't use KVM.

Do you happen to game with it? Does it suffer any frame drops or screen issue?

I am using the UGREEN 4 in 1 out HDMI KVM switch, not the seamless switching that I had expected, but still good enough. Supposedly able to do 1440p at more than 60Hz, but I am using a GSync monitor, so I am locked at 60Hz with HDMI cable; no issues with 1440p @ 60Hz, but i only game on MMO so far.

My next step is to get the Connectpro displayport KVM switch, but the high overall cost (perhaps $800 after shipping, conversion, GST) is just too much. I will prolly live with 60Hz till my current monitor (Acer XB271HU) spoils or when I change rig/graphics card to be able to do >60Hz over HDMI.

i doubt you will have frame drops, it's pretty solid.

the switching when pressing the button. it will have slight delay/ (1-2 secs) is is like that 1.

I didn't want to lock my monitor at 60Hz so I got a USB switcher instead to switch the keyboard and mouse. Second monitor to display the second content.

would suggest you just to get a UGreen KVM Switch

I got a kvm but never really use it. Always encounter problems like keyboard/mouse not detected. Monitor no display. Waste alot of time plug in plug out then can use etc.

If u dun need to switch between both computers on the fly, u plug direct better. Monitor nowadays usually got more than 1 input source, so can plug both computers to monitor.

I have been using the second option since last year and it works really well (usb switch). Since the monitor has two ports, you don't really need a KVM. for me I plug hdmi to laptop and displayport to my desktop. The monitor shld be smart enough to detect which computer is being used and switch the input automatically, unless you are intending to run both simultaneously.
