Hi everyone

Aiming for kyoto trip to see autumn colours. Around Nov 16/17 - 23/24 next year 2019. Just checked for SQ the dates are not opened yet. I want to book early, but as this my first time booking, anyone knows if there will still be promo ahead?

Why i choose SQ is because there are more flight slots compared to scoot and also SQ fly direct to KIX. Japan airlines and ANA also ok but they connect at tokyo as their hub is there.

Slightly too early for good koyo.
Either way that period rarely got any promo especially into KIX which SQ got direct flight promo. They fly their biggest plane A380 into
KIX during that period.

Flight cost should be least of your concern because hotel cost will be triple rates during that period!

23 is Japan holiday. 22-24 will be crazy crowded due to that.
So crowded that it is not enjoyable from my years of Kyoto koyo trips

Sorry what is koyo?

I have to book SQ because only it fly direct to KIX. Checked b4 Jal and ANA they both connect at tokyo and i didnt want to waste 3 hrs to travel to and fro. As for Scoot and other airlines are all transit flights.

Comparing spring cherry blossom and autumn colours, you will choose autumn right? So you mean there will be no promo during that travel period? And also most probably i be going solo, find hotel from booking.com?

I plan to travel on
16/11/2019 - 23/11/2019 OR
17/11/2019 - 24/11/2019

So even if japan hol on 23 or crowds on 24 also doesnt matter since i am coming back to sg already?

This year, koyo which is autumn colours in Kyoto is just approaching peak in most places.

When I went in 2015 from 11-25, Kyoto on 14-17, colours not peak yet..

I read kyoto guide that autumn colours run from 15 Oct for like 2 months. And 15 Nov being good for kyoto? So i arrive on 16 or 17 nov its too early? I dont understand.

2 months is start from hokkaido and move down south..

Kyoto usually 3rd week of Nov then approaching peak.16/17 high chance not peak colours yet for Kyoto.. edited my earlier post and you can also see Japan guide autumn colours report for this year.

This year peak around 23rd..

Recommend? 3rd week reach better chances..

But crowds during koyo is scary..like what ahss mention, accommodation also cost more.

Huh you mean 3rd week or last week of nov? If is 3rd week then is the same as my planned dates? 16-17/11 to 23-24/11 ? Means i depart b4 the jap holiday and crowds come in?

I will spend all 8 days in kyoto only. Will not go other places

Based on ur opinions, seems like i am stuck between the autumn colour date and the crowds.

If you were me, what will you do? Or rather what are my options?

YOLO

Solo trip? Just do it, u will still find it enjoyable even with the crowds..

Ur dates will still spot some autumn colours, just not widespread nia.

Who knows that weather changes and it would be earlier..

Forget to ask. As the SQ dates open until nov 15 only for now, should i book as soon as the date is available? As people say book as early as possible can get cheapest. Or i should anticipate promo for KIX?

I was in Kyoto 2nd week of Nov and almost went mad with the crowd. 3rd - 4th week Nov is superpeak period and very very hard to get accommodation. In the end I stayed in Osaka during the 3rd week of Nov, and escaped to Hiroshima the 23-25 public hol weekend cos everywhere else is fully booked. Avoid travelling on this weekend if possible!

Personally I din enjoy kyoto/Osaka because of the crazy tourist crowd.

I am talking abt next year. I think if i book accomodation early, shouldnt be a problem. Most probably going solo also just need a basic room.

You should just monitor the price in Jan. Rem if you keep checking and the price goes up, try using ur mobile data and check on phone. Happen to my bro when he was going to book for his trip earlier this year.

For far for my past 3 trips

2015 - Land and depart from HND(11th-21st Nov) < Paid around 1.35k for 2 on SQ
2016 - Land and depart from NRT(11th-21st Oct) < Paid around 1.3k for 2 on ANA
2018 - Land HND and depart from KIX(25th Oct to 4th Nov) < Paid 1.58 for 2A and one infant

If direct with Hotel then earliest they open is 3 months in advance(6 months rare). Alternatively secure with those booking websites. Base urself in Osaka and do day trip to Kyoto(Save some and easier to find food/shopping at night for me).
